Warner Bros. Games announced on February 25, 2025, that it would close Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. The company also ended development on Monolith’s announced Wonder Woman game. Warner Bros. described the move as a strategic shift toward investing in Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones, with the games business aiming to return to profitability and growth.

Why did Warner Bros. say it was closing the studios?
The company’s stated rationale
Warner Bros. framed the closures as a portfolio and investment decision. It said it would focus studio investment on Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones, while working to restore profitability and growth in its games business. The statement did not identify a specific financial figure or say that any one studio’s performance alone caused the decision.
What journalists reported separately
In a February 25, 2025, Los Angeles Times report, Jason Schreier described broader financial pressure and reported that the Wonder Woman project had been rebooted, cost more than $100 million and was still years from release, citing people familiar with the project. These are details attributed to sources in that reporting, not figures or explanations stated by Warner Bros. in its announcement.
