Blizzard has said Warcraft Rumble will get no new content, but it is not shutting down. The game will keep receiving regular systemic in-game events and bug fixes. Microsoft and Xbox announced workforce reductions in July 2026 that named Blizzard among affected organizations, but the official statements do not link those cuts to Rumble’s content decision, and they do not say how many Rumble staff were affected.
What Blizzard has said about Rumble’s future
Blizzard’s announcement, titled “Announcing Changes to Warcraft Rumble Support,” separates what continues from what stops:
- Continues: updates focused on regular, systemic in-game events and bug fixes.
- Stops: new content.
- Not described as: a shutdown. No end date for the game is given.
The company’s wording on the plan reads: “Moving forward, we’ll continue supporting Rumble with updates focused on regular, systemic in-game events and bug fixes, but no new content.” Blizzard Entertainment published this in an official statement to the Warcraft Rumble community.
Blizzard’s stated reason
Blizzard ties the decision to sustainability rather than to a company-wide budget event. Its announcement says: “Since launch, Rumble has struggled to find its footing relative to our ambition for its long-term success.” The company says it listened to player feedback, refocused the game, and explored alternatives. Those efforts produced some progress, but Blizzard says they did not put Rumble on a sustainable path.

What Microsoft and Xbox announced in July 2026
Microsoft and Xbox made two separate announcements on July 6, 2026. They cover different scopes and should not be added together.
| Item | Microsoft (company-wide) | Xbox (division) |
|---|---|---|
| Headline figure | Around 4,800 roles eliminated, about 2.1% of global workforce | Approximately 3,200 planned reductions over FY27 |
| Portion announced that day | Not stated as a separate figure | Approximately 1,600 on July 6, 2026 |
| Where cuts fall | Mostly within Commercial and Xbox, per Microsoft | Varies across Activision, Bethesda/ZeniMax, Blizzard, King, Mojang, and Xbox Game Studios |
| Blizzard-specific count | Not stated | Not stated |
| Rumble-specific count | Not stated | Not stated |
| Project cancellations | Not stated | Xbox says no publicly announced first-party games or projects are being cancelled as part of these reductions |
Microsoft’s announcement states: “Today we are eliminating around 4,800 roles, about 2.1% of our global workforce.” Amy Coleman, EVP and Chief People Officer, made the statement in the Official Microsoft Blog post.

Xbox’s employee memo, published on Xbox Wire, states: “None of our first party publicly announced games or projects are being cancelled as part of these reductions.” Asha Sharma wrote the memo. Xbox names Blizzard among the organizations affected, but the memo does not say what happened to unannounced work or to individual teams.
Is there a direct connection?
No official source establishes one. Blizzard gives sustainability as its reason for ending new content. The July reductions are a separate, documented event, and the Blizzard support statement is undated in the text available, so the sequence cannot be confirmed from it. Reporting that links the two is speculation unless a later official statement says otherwise.

A September 2026 report from the Communications Workers of America adds labor context. On September 9, 2026, the union reported that Blizzard contracts covering nearly 1,900 workers were ratified, and that Warcraft Rumble is among the represented units. Covered workers gained a 14-month right to recall into open positions across Blizzard bargaining units after a layoff announcement. That is contract protection, not a count of Rumble staff affected by the July cuts.

What this means if you have spent money on Rumble

Best Value
- Collector figure featuring true-to-film highly detailed deco and sculpting
- This Garona collector figure stand 6" tall
- Great for play and display!
- Collect them all!
- For ages 6 and up
- Check your balance of unspent in-game currency and any bundles you own. Confirm in the game’s store section or Blizzard’s support pages whether they remain usable under the new plan.
- Check the refund rules for your platform. Purchases made through Apple’s App Store or Google Play follow those stores’ policies, not Blizzard’s, so look up the refund window in your store account.
- Do not pay in anticipation of new content. Blizzard’s stated plan is no new content, so the game as it stands is what you are buying.
For a mobile game, a fixed monthly entertainment budget is the simplest guard. Decide the amount before you start spending, and stop when it runs out.
