For investors in India who want some international stock exposure through domestic mutual funds, Mint reported these 10 schemes with the largest overseas portfolio shares in Value Research data for August 2026. The ranking is a dated snapshot, not a definitive ranking of every Indian scheme or a recommendation to invest.

Which schemes had the highest overseas allocation?

The figures below are the overseas portfolio shares reported by Mint from Value Research portfolio disclosures for August 2026. The one-year returns are direct-plan figures dated 11 October 2026, as reported by Mint. The article does not specify the eligible scheme universe or provide links to the underlying scheme-level disclosures.

What the ranking does—and does not—tell you

Portfolio share is not the same as rupee exposure

A fund’s overseas allocation is the percentage of its portfolio invested abroad. That percentage does not tell you the total rupee value of its overseas holdings, which also depends on the fund’s size. Mint reported that Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund had overseas holdings worth ₹16,300 crore, the largest rupee value among these ten, even though its 11.06% share placed it eighth in the ranking. The same report put overseas holdings at ₹197 crore for Edelweiss Technology Fund, ₹352 crore for Franklin India Technology Fund, and ₹720 crore for Kotak Pioneer Fund. These rupee figures are Mint’s reports of Value Research data, not independently checked scheme disclosures.

The funds do not share one investment mandate

The list includes technology-focused schemes, a natural resources and new energy fund, a children’s fund, and broader value, flexi-cap, innovation, and focused funds. Overseas exposure is only one part of each portfolio. A high percentage alone does not establish what the fund owns abroad, how concentrated it is, or whether its overall mandate suits your needs.

One-year returns are not a selection rule

The reported returns ranged from -12.19% to 13.58% for the one-year period shown, with negative figures for Franklin India Technology Fund, SBI Technology Opportunities Fund, and Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund. A short-period result can reflect market and currency movements as well as the underlying holdings; it is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

How to assess a fund for international exposure

Use the overseas share as a starting point, then examine the scheme as a whole. Before investing, compare:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Mandate: Check whether the scheme is designed around a particular sector or follows a broader strategy. Sector-focused funds can concentrate risk rather than provide broad international diversification.
  • Portfolio composition: Review the latest factsheet or portfolio disclosure for overseas and domestic holdings, major positions, and concentration. The August 2026 ranking above should not substitute for current disclosures.
  • Exposure in context: Consider both the percentage invested overseas and the fund’s total holdings. A larger share does not necessarily mean a larger rupee investment abroad.
  • Costs: Compare the applicable expense ratio and other scheme costs using current official scheme documents; the ranking does not provide cost figures.
  • Performance across cycles: Examine longer periods and different market conditions rather than choosing on a single one-year return. Past performance cannot establish what a scheme will return next.
  • Risk and diversification: International holdings do not automatically lower portfolio risk. Currency movements and sector concentration can affect returns, and foreign assets can fall at the same time as domestic assets.

What to keep in mind before investing

Domestic mutual funds can provide overseas market exposure without requiring you to open an overseas brokerage account, but the extent and character of that exposure vary by scheme and can change over time. Treat the August 2026 allocation figures as a dated comparison point. For an investment decision, verify the fund’s latest portfolio, mandate, costs, and risk information in its official documents, and assess it alongside your overall asset allocation rather than selecting solely by overseas percentage.
