Walmart says the $350 million, 300,000-plus-square-foot facility makes Great Value and Member’s Mark milk and supplies more than 650 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the Southeast.
Where is the Walmart milk plant, and is it open?
The facility is on Inner Perimeter Road in Valdosta, in Lowndes County, Georgia. Walmart celebrated its grand opening on December 2, 2025, making this an operating facility rather than a proposal or future project. It is Walmart’s second owned-and-operated milk processing plant, after its facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Walmart’s opening announcement describes the Valdosta plant as more than 300,000 square feet and a $350 million investment.

What milk does the Valdosta plant make?
Walmart says the plant processes and bottles gallon and half-gallon containers of whole, 2%, 1%, skim, and 1% chocolate milk. The products are for Walmart’s Great Value brand and Sam’s Club’s Member’s Mark brand. These are the products and formats identified in the company’s opening announcement; it does not publish a daily production figure. The Valdosta-Lowndes County Development Authority’s opening coverage also describes the facility’s regional role.
Which stores get milk from the plant?
Walmart’s December 2025 announcement says the Valdosta plant will supply more than 650 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the Southeast. That is a regional reach figure, not a store-by-store distribution list, so it does not establish whether a particular store receives milk from Valdosta.

The projected reach changed between the project announcement and opening:
| Announcement | Reported reach | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Walmart project announcement, October 11, 2023 (source) | More than 750 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs | Early forecast, not the opening-era figure |
| Walmart opening announcement, December 2, 2025 (source) | More than 650 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across the Southeast | Opening-era company statement |
The announcements do not explain why the projected count changed. Neither provides a public list of receiving stores.

How many jobs did the plant create?
Walmart’s December 2025 opening announcement says the facility creates more than 400 new Walmart jobs. Earlier project announcements described the expectation as nearly or almost 400: Walmart’s 2023 announcement and the Georgia governor’s office announcement both predated construction and opening.
The state announcement listed anticipated work across production, engineering, quality, food safety, warehouse operations, maintenance, and driving. A dairy-operator job description illustrates the kinds of tasks involved—receiving milk, separation, standardization, pasteurization, batching, temperature recording, sanitation, equipment operation, and food-safety procedures—but a job listing describes a role, not a guarantee that a particular opening or shift is available now. Walmart Careers’ dairy operator listing provides that role description.

Where does the plant’s milk come from?
Walmart says it sources milk directly from local dairy farmers. The company presents the approach as a way to strengthen supply-chain resilience and increase transparency around sourcing; it has not publicly identified all supplying farms, disclosed contract terms, or said how much it buys from any one farm. As a result, the local-farmer connection does not identify the origin of milk in an individual carton.
The project was announced in 2023 as a facility intended to use ingredients from local farmers. At the time, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said, “We’re excited that Walmart will soon tap into Georgia’s No. 1 industry and open new opportunities for farmers in the Lowndes County area.” That statement accompanied the project announcement, not a published list of farm suppliers.

What is known about capacity and local impact?
Walmart’s opening announcement gives the investment, facility size, product range, jobs, and regional reach, but not annual output or measured production to date. Contractor Dennis Group says the Valdosta plant was designed to process 120 million gallons of milk annually. That is the contractor’s design-capacity figure, not evidence of the plant’s current or actual output. Dennis Group’s project page also gives an earlier approximate estimate of 300 jobs at each of its Valdosta and Robinson, Texas, sites, which differs from Walmart’s later opening-era figure of more than 400 new jobs for Valdosta.
Georgia’s dairy figures offer historical context, not a measure of this plant’s suppliers or impact. In October 2023, the Associated Press reported Georgia Milk Producers figures for 2022: 89 dairy farms, 92,000 dairy cows, and 235 million gallons of milk produced. The AP report dates those figures to 2022; they should not be read as current production or as Valdosta plant totals.
Can the public visit or buy milk directly at the plant?
The available announcements do not establish public tours, public access, or a direct-to-consumer sales counter. The plant is described as a Walmart processing and distribution facility serving retail locations, not as a public storefront.
