Walmart’s reported promise to deliver some Nintendo Switch 2 preorders by 9 a.m. was tied to the console’s June 5, 2025 launch—not to orders placed today. 9to5Toys reported on June 2 that Walmart confirmed free delivery by 9 a.m. local time on launch day for customers who had already secured a preorder. That deadline has passed.
What Walmart promised—and who it applied to
According to 9to5Toys’ June 2, 2025 report, Walmart confirmed it would provide free delivery by 9 a.m. local time on June 5 to customers who had already secured a Switch 2 preorder. The report is the source for the specific time and delivery terms; the available sources do not establish that the offer covered every preorder, every location, or every customer.

The Associated Press separately reported that Walmart said its early preorder listings sold out quickly amid high demand and that customers would have another chance to buy on June 5. The AP report does not independently confirm the 9 a.m. delivery commitment. Read the AP’s report on Walmart’s preorder statements.
Does the 9 a.m. promise still apply?
No. The reported delivery window was for June 5, 2025, the Switch 2 launch date, and has expired. It is not a standing Walmart delivery policy or a commitment for current orders. For any order placed now, rely on the delivery date and terms shown by the retailer for that specific purchase.

Why June 5 mattered
Nintendo announced that Switch 2 would launch on June 5, 2025. Its U.S. announcement listed a suggested retail price of $449.99 for the console and $499.99 for a Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle; those are historical launch-announcement prices, not verified current prices. Nintendo’s launch announcement also described a 7.9-inch LCD screen, 256 GB of internal storage, and compatibility with physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, while noting that some titles may not be supported or fully compatible.
Nintendo later reported that more than 3.5 million Switch 2 units were sold worldwide during the first four days after release. That company-reported figure reflects global sales, not Walmart’s delivery performance. Nintendo’s June 2025 sales announcement gives the figure and its timeframe.
