Amazon’s separate Prime Access plan is listed at $6.99 per month after its own 30-day trial. The memberships have different eligibility rules, billing options and benefits, so the lower listed monthly price is only one part of the comparison.
What Walmart+ Assist costs
Walmart’s current Walmart+ Assist membership page lists two discounted rates: $6.47 monthly or $49 annually. Walmart’s Help Center says applicable tax is additional. The membership page also advertises a 30-day free trial. These are current page terms, not guaranteed permanent prices; confirm the total and renewal terms during enrollment.

The headline’s “halves the price” describes Walmart’s stated Assist discount, not a cash payment or a reduction in the cost of government assistance. Assist is a paid membership with a discounted rate.

Walmart cautions that not all government programs qualify. Applicants begin on Walmart’s Assist page and complete verification through SheerID; SheerID may ask for additional information or documents. These benefits are most useful when Walmart delivery and participating fuel stations are available where you live and match your shopping habits. Walmart announced the expanded streaming choice on September 1, 2025; the announcement described it as added without raising the then-stated standard annual price. That historical standard price is not a current price quote for this comparison.
How Walmart+ Assist compares with Amazon Prime Access
Amazon’s Prime Access information, updated August 6, 2026, lists $6.99 per month after a 30-day trial for qualifying government-assistance recipients and income-verified customers. The same page lists standard U.S. Prime at $14.99 per month or $139 per year. The comparison below reflects the cited pages’ terms; the services do not have identical benefits.

Walmart’s annual Assist option is $49 before applicable tax. Whether it is preferable to monthly billing depends on your ability to pay upfront and your likelihood of using the membership over the year. Prime Access’s cited discounted terms specify a monthly price, so compare that monthly commitment rather than assuming an annual discount is available.
How to decide which membership fits
- Check eligibility first. Walmart publishes a specific program list and uses SheerID; Amazon also has an income-verification pathway. Qualifying for one plan does not establish eligibility for the other.
- Compare local usefulness. Check delivery coverage and restrictions, grocery order minimums, and participating fuel stations in your area before valuing those benefits.
- Match billing to your budget. Assist has monthly and annual listed prices; Prime Access’s cited discounted terms are monthly.
- Count only services you will use. Walmart’s streaming benefit is a rotating choice of one ad-supported service every 90 days, not both at once. Consider the services and other benefits you actually want rather than treating either membership as an identical Prime substitute.
Switching an existing Walmart+ membership
Walmart’s current Help Center says full-price paid members can switch to Assist at any time or wait until their existing membership ends. Walmart’s July 20, 2023 launch announcement said qualifying existing members who switched would receive a prorated refund and begin paying the lower price immediately. Because the current account flow may determine how a switch and any refund are handled, confirm the terms shown in your Walmart account before changing plans.
