Wallet in Telegram introduced multi-asset trading and crypto rewards in March 2025. The service has since expanded, and its name now covers two products with different custody models: a custodial Crypto Wallet for in-app transactions and a self-custodial DeFi Account for blockchain and DeFi use. Trading availability, withdrawal rights, fees and Earn risks depend on the asset, feature and location.

What launched in March 2025

On March 13, 2025, The Open Platform, the company operating Wallet in Telegram, announced Wallet Trade and Wallet Earn. The update broadened trading beyond TON, Bitcoin and USDT to hundreds of cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, XRP and Dogecoin. It also introduced rewards for eligible holdings and a redesigned interface with separate Wallet, Trade and Earn areas. The rollout was scheduled across March and April 2025, with regional restrictions possible. Wallet’s launch announcement

At launch, the pitch was that users could buy, sell or hold supported assets without first making separate on-chain deposits. Early coverage described the service as self-custodial, but that description does not fit every Wallet product today. Wallet is integrated into Telegram; that does not mean Telegram itself operates every financial service. TechCrunch’s March 2025 report

Check which Wallet product you are using before depositing funds. Custody determines who controls the keys and what kind of access or recovery options you have.

Product Custody Main uses Key limitation
Crypto Wallet Custodial: the service manages the account infrastructure. Buy, sell, store, exchange and transfer supported assets; use P2P features where available. Some trading assets cannot be deposited from outside services, withdrawn to external addresses or transferred to Telegram contacts.
DeFi Account Self-custodial: the user controls the private key derived from the seed phrase. Use TON blockchain apps, swaps, staking and third-party DeFi strategies. The user must protect the seed phrase and bears wallet, network and protocol risks; access may not be recoverable through ordinary support.

Wallet’s product overview describes Crypto Wallet as custodial, while its DeFi Account information describes self-custody. Crypto Wallet may require identity information and compliance checks, and access or features may be restricted. In DeFi Account, the seed phrase is the route to the private key; losing it can mean losing access.

What you can trade—and what “supported” means

The March 2025 announcement used the broad phrase “hundreds of cryptocurrencies,” but supported assets do not all have the same capabilities. Wallet’s current documentation distinguishes transferable tokens from trading assets, which may only be bought and sold within Crypto Wallet.

  • Supported tokens: Depending on the token and network, these may be deposited, withdrawn, transferred or exchanged.
  • Trading assets: Many can be bought, sold or held in Wallet but cannot be deposited from an outside service or withdrawn to an external address. They may also be ineligible for transfers to Telegram contacts or P2P sales.
  • DeFi assets: Assets held in the self-custodial DeFi Account are distinct from custodial Crypto Wallet balances.
  • Tokenized stocks and ETFs: These are a separate product category, not ordinary cryptocurrency ownership. A token tracking an underlying asset does not necessarily provide shareholder rights.

Wallet’s supported-token list and trading-asset rules describe asset-specific differences. The available list and actions can vary by region, so check the exact asset’s deposit and withdrawal options before buying it.

How an exchange works in Crypto Wallet

Wallet documents this in-app exchange flow:

  1. Open Crypto Wallet in Telegram.
  2. Tap the Exchange icon.
  3. Choose the asset you want to exchange and the asset you want to receive.
  4. Review the quoted rate and fee, including any network charge shown.
  5. Tap Confirm and exchange only after checking the final amount.

Users can generally exchange GRAM or USDT for supported assets; other crypto assets may generally be exchanged back into GRAM or USDT. Wallet says rates use data from multiple exchanges and can move before confirmation. This is an in-app exchange service, not necessarily a full traditional exchange with unrestricted withdrawals, order-book tools and direct control of every asset. The final quote and fee in the app are the practical figures to check before confirming. Wallet’s trading instructions and fee and limit information

What Wallet Earn offers—and what it does not promise

“Earn” is an umbrella for different ways of seeking rewards, not a single savings account paying a fixed rate. Current Wallet materials list strategies and programs including GRAM Earn, USDe Earn, USDT Earn with Affluent, Gold Earn, Ethereum Earn, Bitcoin Earn, and USDT Earn with Morpho, Re7 Labs and Sentora. These can involve staking or validator rewards, third-party DeFi protocols, stablecoin strategies or other asset-specific programs. Wallet’s Earn overview

The March 2025 announcement referred to an average TON yield of about 4%, tied to validator rewards. That was a launch-era estimate, not a current rate or guaranteed return; the launch report also said USDT yield was planned for a later stage. TechCrunch’s report on the launch

Current APYs, when shown, can vary by asset, strategy, eligibility, duration and region. Wallet says third-party protocols operate outside its control and does not guarantee that a strategy will remain available or that a participant will receive rewards. Protocol terms may add restrictions. Before allocating funds, check the named protocol, how the return is generated, applicable fees, withdrawal conditions and the asset in which rewards are paid. Earn terms and risk information; for one partner-specific example, Re7 Labs USDT Earn details

  1. Open the relevant Earn section and select an available strategy.
  2. Review the asset, protocol, displayed APY, fees, lockup or withdrawal conditions, and any regional restrictions.
  3. Read the third-party terms and confirm that the strategy’s risks and exit process are acceptable to you.
  4. Confirm the allocation, then monitor the position and understand the withdrawal process before committing a meaningful amount.

Fees, limits and withdrawals

Wallet’s fee page was last updated July 8, 2026. The figures below describe the page’s stated terms; they are not a guarantee that every transaction or account sees the same charges.

Transaction or rule Stated detail Qualification
Deposits No Wallet deposit fee Network or external-provider charges may still apply where relevant.
Exchanges Generally $1.40 minimum and $25,000 maximum Exceptions apply to BTC pairs, USDT–GRAM and tokenized stocks or ETFs.
Crypto sales through a bank-card provider 3.5% stated fee The sale uses a third-party payment provider.
Transfers to Telegram contacts No Wallet transfer fee This does not mean all blockchain transactions are free; network fees may apply.
P2P market A help-page example charges 0.9 USDT on a completed 100 USDT transaction Illustrative example, not a universal schedule; the page says P2P fees changed April 7, 2026.

Crypto Wallet tiers can reduce trading fees based on monthly trading activity. Perpetual-futures activity, bank-card purchases and sales, P2P trading, and external deposits and withdrawals do not count toward tier changes. Fees and limits can change, so use the amount shown on the confirmation screen rather than relying on an older example. Wallet fee and limit page; P2P fee information; tier rules

Before sending funds out, confirm that the asset is withdrawable and that the receiving address uses a compatible network. A token displayed for trading is not necessarily transferable, and sending an asset on the wrong network can result in permanent loss.

Availability, including for U.S. users

Availability is jurisdiction- and feature-specific. A country’s eligibility for Crypto Wallet does not automatically establish access to every asset, card payment, Earn protocol or stablecoin feature. U.S. readers should check the in-app eligibility screen, current Wallet terms, payment-provider rules and the terms of any Earn protocol before depositing funds. Wallet’s current overview discusses U.S. availability, but individual products can have separate restrictions.

An older Wallet agreement dated April 18, 2024 stated that USDT functionality was unavailable to users in the mainland United States, U.S. territories or U.S. citizens. Because that agreement predates the current product setup, treat it as a historical, version-specific restriction—not as proof of a universal current rule. Wallet user agreement

Risks to weigh before trading or earning

Custody and access

With custodial Crypto Wallet, users rely on Wallet and its service providers to process transactions and maintain account access. Identity or compliance reviews can delay or restrict service. A custodial balance is not the same as holding an on-chain private key, and some trading assets cannot be moved to an external wallet.

Seed phrases and self-custody

With DeFi Account, the user controls the seed phrase and must protect it. Anyone who obtains it may be able to control the wallet; losing it can leave funds inaccessible. Blockchain transactions may be irreversible, so verify the recipient address and network before sending.

Protocols and changing returns

Third-party Earn strategies expose funds to the relevant protocol and strategy. Smart-contract vulnerabilities, liquidity problems, oracle failures, liquidation or other protocol losses can affect funds. APY can change, and a displayed rate is not a promise that the same return will continue or be paid. “Flexible withdrawal” does not remove smart-contract or network risk. Wallet’s Earn documentation states that these protocols are outside Wallet’s control. Earn risks; partner-specific terms

Market and stablecoin risk

Crypto prices can fall by more than a position earns. Stablecoins can face depeg, issuer, liquidity and regulatory risks. Tokenized stocks or ETFs may track an underlying asset without conferring the ownership, voting or shareholder rights associated with it.

Leverage is a separate, higher-risk product

Wallet later announced perpetual futures through Lighter, advertising more than 50 assets and up to 50× leverage in an April 2, 2026 announcement. Futures are not ordinary spot purchases or an Earn deposit: leverage can magnify losses and trigger liquidation quickly. This was a later expansion, not part of the March 2025 Trade and Earn launch. Wallet’s perpetual-futures announcement

What changed after launch

The 2025 announcement used the name TON. Wallet’s help pages say Toncoin (TON) was renamed Gram (GRAM) on June 15, 2026, with balances and addresses unchanged. Use “TON” when referring to the historical launch and “GRAM” for Wallet’s current naming. Earn also expanded beyond the original TON-focused rewards into multiple asset and third-party strategies, while perpetual futures arrived as a separate later feature. How to decide whether it fits

Wallet in Telegram may suit people who value an integrated interface and straightforward in-app transactions. It is a weaker fit if you require unrestricted withdrawals, advanced exchange controls or a single interface with one custody model. Before proceeding, check these points:

  • Custody: Decide whether custodial convenience or direct private-key control suits your needs.
  • Withdrawability: Verify that the specific asset can be sent to the external wallet you intend to use.
  • Jurisdiction: Check eligibility for the exact trade, payment method and Earn strategy.
  • Total cost: Account for exchange charges, spread, card-provider fees, P2P fees and blockchain network fees where applicable.
  • Yield source and exit: Identify whether returns come from staking, lending, liquidity provision, incentives or a campaign; check how and when you can withdraw.
  • Exposure: Consider who holds the asset or operates the protocol, what asset you receive as rewards, and whether the asset is volatile, stablecoin-based or tokenized.
  • Records and security: Make sure you can retain transaction records for local tax reporting and protect the credentials or seed phrase required for access.

Choose based on custody, portability and risk—not APY alone. Wallet’s convenience does not make an exchange balance equivalent to self-custody, or a DeFi strategy equivalent to a protected savings account.
