The Best Buy flash sale in this headline was a historical U.S. promotion reported on September 6, 2024—not a current offer. It listed an HP OMEN Transcend 14 OLED gaming laptop for $1,299.99, advertised as $400 below its $1,699.99 reference price. The promotion has ended; current availability and pricing for any similar configuration have not been verified.
What the original HP OMEN deal included
HotHardware reported the deal during the final hours of a Best Buy 48-hour sale, alongside a separate daily deal. The laptop was the HP OMEN Transcend 14, not simply an unspecified OMEN OLED model. Its listed configuration included an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD and a 14-inch 2.8K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The coverage and advertised prices are from September 6, 2024. HotHardware’s original deal roundup
HP’s documentation for the OMEN Transcend 14-fb0000 family lists multiple configurations, including different processors, GPUs, memory and storage capacities. It describes the OLED panel as 2,880 × 1,800 with a 48–120Hz variable refresh range. Those family specifications do not establish that every OMEN Transcend 14 listing has the deal’s exact parts; confirm the SKU before comparing or buying. HP’s OMEN Transcend 14 specifications
Was $1,299.99 a good deal?
It was potentially compelling for someone who specifically wanted a compact gaming laptop with a high-resolution OLED screen. The advertised discount put a 14-inch OLED system with an RTX 4060 and 1TB SSD at $1,299.99. But the price alone does not establish that it was the best market price: the original coverage reports the retailer’s reference-price comparison, not the laptop’s lowest historical price or an independent value analysis.

Why the display and size could justify a premium
OLED’s deep blacks, contrast and fast pixel response can make games and video look more vivid than on many IPS panels. HP lists the family’s 2.8K OLED option at 0.2ms response time, up to 500 nits HDR brightness and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage; specifications can vary by configuration. The 14-inch chassis is also easier to carry than a larger gaming laptop. These features may matter to buyers who travel, watch media or create content as well as play games.
Why the advertised savings may not be enough
- Performance per dollar: Buyers who mainly want gaming performance may find a larger laptop with the same GPU class and an IPS screen a better value. The article gives no benchmark results or frame rates for this exact configuration.
- Memory: HP identifies the family’s 16GB and 32GB memory options as onboard. A buyer considering 16GB should decide whether it suits their intended games and applications, and should not assume a later RAM upgrade is possible.
- Small-chassis trade-offs: Cooling, sustained performance, port selection and screen size are worth comparing when choosing between a 14-inch system and a larger laptop. The sale coverage did not measure this model’s thermals, fan noise or battery life.
- OLED use: OLED can be a strong fit for gaming and media, but static interface elements over long use, reflections and brightness settings may affect the experience. The original deal coverage did not test burn-in risk or battery life.
The original article did not test the discounted 14-inch model; it referred readers to coverage of the larger OMEN Transcend 16. Treat its price and specifications as reported deal information, not as a hands-on review. Original coverage and its testing caveat

The lower-priced, larger OMEN alternative
The roundup also listed a 16.1-inch HP OMEN for $999.99, advertised as $400 off. Its reported configuration paired an Intel Core i9-13900HX with an RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 1TB SSD, plus a 1080p, 165Hz IPS display. That is a different balance: a larger screen and lower listed price, but not the Transcend 14’s OLED panel or portable 14-inch format. The processor and cooling designs differ, so the specs alone do not prove which laptop would perform better in a particular game or sustained workload.
| Priority | Configuration that better matches it | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Portable gaming and OLED image quality | OMEN Transcend 14 | Its 16GB memory in the reported deal was onboard; verify the exact SKU. |
| Lower listed price and a larger display | OMEN 16 | Its reported screen was IPS, not OLED. |
| High-refresh competitive gaming | Either may suit the use case | Refresh rate does not establish actual game performance; check the exact system and game settings. |
| Frequent travel | OMEN Transcend 14 | Portability is the format advantage; the deal coverage did not establish battery life. |
| Desktop-replacement use | OMEN 16 or a gaming desktop | Compare the exact GPU power limits, cooling and configuration rather than relying on the GPU name alone. |

The OMEN Transcend name now covers newer configurations as well as the 2024 family. - Match the model or SKU. Check the complete model number and verify whether it is the 2024 Core Ultra 7 155H/RTX 4060 configuration or a different generation.
- Confirm the key components. Check the GPU variant, memory capacity and whether memory is onboard, SSD size, and OLED resolution and refresh-rate range.
- Read the listing’s condition and seller details. Distinguish new from open-box or refurbished and check whether the seller is Best Buy or a marketplace seller.
- Review the transaction terms. Check the return period, warranty, any membership or activation requirement, delivery fees and pickup availability for your ZIP code.
- Compare prices on like-for-like terms. A stated discount from a reference price is not proof of the lowest recent market price. Compare the exact configuration and condition before deciding.
