Wallapop’s January 2023 announcement was for an €81 million extension to its Series G, at a stated valuation of €771 million. TechCrunch rendered those figures as $87.4 million and about $832 million using exchange rates at the time. The dollar figure was a currency conversion—not a current valuation or a separate financing event.

What Wallapop announced in January 2023

On January 25, 2023, Wallapop said it had raised €81 million in an extension of its Series G. The company reported a €771 million valuation after the extension. It said the round was led by Korelya Capital and backed by NAVER and existing investors including Accel, 14W, and Insight. Wallapop said the funding would support internationalization and the reuse market in Spain, Italy, and Portugal. Wallapop’s announcement gives the original euro figures and investor details.

Why the headline used $87 million and $832 million

TechCrunch reported the €81 million raise as $87.4 million and the €771 million valuation as approximately $832 million. Those dollar amounts reflect exchange rates used for the January 2023 coverage; they do not indicate that Wallapop raised or was valued in dollars. The conversion is useful for understanding the headline in its original context, but it should not be treated as a current valuation. TechCrunch’s report supplies the dollar rendering.

What happened to Wallapop’s financing and ownership afterward

Later financing and the acquisition changed the context of the 2023 figures. The amounts below are stated in euros by the respective company announcements and are tied to different dates and transaction types.

Date Event Reported amount or valuation
January 2023 Series G extension announced by Wallapop €81 million raised; €771 million stated valuation (Wallapop, 2023)
February 2024 Further Series G extension; AXIS joined through Fond-ICO Next Tech €20 million raised; €806 million stated valuation (Wallapop, 2024)
August 2025 NAVER announced an agreement to acquire an additional 70.5% stake €377 million for the additional stake (NAVER, 2025)
January 2026 Wallapop said the acquisition was completed after regulatory approvals Approximately €650 million post-money valuation, as reported by Wallapop (Wallapop, 2026)

These figures are not a like-for-like valuation series: the 2023 and 2024 amounts accompany funding extensions, while the 2025 figure is consideration for an additional ownership stake and the 2026 figure is Wallapop’s reported post-money valuation after completion. The 2023 $832 million headline should not be compared with later euro figures without accounting for currency, date, and transaction context.

What Wallapop is and what the user figures mean

NAVER describes Wallapop as a mobile-based consumer-to-consumer secondhand marketplace founded in Spain in 2013. Spain’s competition authority, the CNMC, describes its business as a general classified advertising platform for new and secondhand goods, operating by web and app in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. The acquisition announcement by NAVER cited more than 19 million monthly active users in 2025; Wallapop later reported more than 23 million monthly users in Southern Europe in its September 2026 announcement. The measures use different wording and dates, so they should not be read as a directly comparable user-growth series.
