Voodoo announced on June 11, 2024, that it had acquired BeReal at a stated valuation of €500 million. The often-quoted $537 million is a rounded U.S. dollar equivalent; contemporaneous coverage put the conversion at about $536 million. Voodoo did not disclose how much cash was paid at closing.
How much did Voodoo pay for BeReal?
The announced valuation was €500 million. The Information reported an approximate equivalent of $536 million in June 2024, while the $537 million headline is another rounded dollar rendering. The euro figure is the transaction value Voodoo announced; dollar equivalents vary with exchange rates and rounding.
That valuation should not be treated as a confirmed cash purchase price. The Information reported that the consideration combined upfront cash with payments tied to company performance, but the amounts were not disclosed. The available details do not establish a final cash-at-closing figure or the payment split.
Why did Voodoo buy BeReal?
Voodoo presented the acquisition as a step in diversifying beyond games into consumer apps. In its June 2024 announcement, the buyer said it planned to invest further in BeReal and contribute expertise in product strategy, growth and infrastructure. Those were Voodoo’s stated intentions, not evidence by themselves of the effects the deal would have.

Voodoo’s co-founder and CEO Alexandre Yazdi described BeReal as having “incredible user loyalty and growth,” and said it reflected a universal desire to share unfiltered experiences with close friends. That was the buyer’s view of the app’s appeal. BeReal founder and CEO Alexis Barreyat praised Voodoo’s record of growing mobile apps.
What BeReal looked like when the deal was announced
Voodoo described BeReal as a social app founded in 2019. Its June 2024 account said users received a daily push notification and had a two-minute window to post; photos disappeared after 24 hours, and the app had no likes or follower counts. These are dated descriptions from the acquisition announcement, not confirmation of the app’s current features.

Voodoo reported more than 40 million active users in June 2024, with the United States, Japan and France as its three key markets. It also said half of users opened the app at least six days a week. These figures were reported by the buyer and should not be read as current or independently audited user metrics.
Voodoo’s announcement also said BeReal had become Apple’s App Store’s number-one social-networking app in 2022 and received Apple’s 2022 App Store Award for iPhone App of the Year.

Leadership transition announced in June 2024
Voodoo named Aymeric Roffé, then CEO of its social app Wizz, as BeReal’s incoming CEO. The announcement said founder Alexis Barreyat would remain involved in the short term to support integration. That records the transition planned at announcement; it does not establish BeReal’s current leadership.
What Voodoo later reported about BeReal
In a 2026 retrospective, Voodoo said BeReal generated €30 million in revenue in 2025, compared with zero at acquisition. Voodoo also described the audience as stabilized in France and growing strongly in Japan. These are company-reported results and assessments, not independent audits.

Voodoo said it saw a path to profitability by 2027. That is a forward-looking company outlook, not a result already achieved. BeReal’s official news index includes 2026 product and advertising announcements, and Voodoo continues to list the app among its social apps; those updates indicate activity, but do not establish current user totals or current product features.

Voodoo described itself in the June 2024 announcement as a mobile apps and games publisher with more than 7 billion downloads worldwide. In results published in 2025, the company reported €623 million in revenue, €135 million in EBITDA and 950 million downloads during 2024. Voodoo called the BeReal acquisition a milestone in its diversification strategy. These are company-reported figures.
