Virtuos announced layoffs on July 17, 2025, affecting approximately 7% of its global workforce. The company said it remained committed to its work on Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater; the announcement does not establish that the layoffs delayed or disrupted the game.
What Virtuos announced
Virtuos called the changes a “rebalancing of roles” across its studios and locations. In its July 17, 2025 statement, the company said approximately 7% of its global workforce was affected, primarily in teams facing lower occupancy and slower demand amid structural shifts in the industry.

Game Developer’s contemporaneous report also gave the total as 270 roles. Virtuos said the impact was greater in Asia as it sought to align team locations more closely with clients for iterative co-development.
Why the company said it made the cuts
Virtuos attributed the restructuring to lower occupancy and slower demand in some teams, structural changes across the industry, and a plan to bring team locations closer to clients. These are the company’s stated reasons; the announcement does not provide a team-by-team accounting of the roles affected.

The company said it was offering separation packages, career-transition assistance, and possible redeployment elsewhere in its network. Those are company-stated support measures; the announcement does not document individual outcomes.
What Virtuos said about Metal Gear Solid Delta
Virtuos listed Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater among its ongoing announced-title work and said it remained “fully committed” to the partnership. Virtuos describes its role as supporting Konami; its project page identifies Konami as the client.

That commitment is not the same as evidence about staffing levels or production status on the game. The announcement does not identify whether any affected workers were assigned to the project, and the available sources do not show that the layoffs delayed, reduced, or otherwise disrupted development or support.

Virtuos’ project page now says the game launched and lists PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The company also reports that more than 1 million copies were sold worldwide in the first week across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). That sales figure is Virtuos-reported, not independently audited here.
