Published October 8, 2026: This is a retrospective of Virgin Australia’s two-day sale reported in June 2024. The promotion has expired; the fares below are historical starting prices, not bookable offers.
The Nightly reported that more than 300,000 fares were available on selected domestic routes for travel from July 1 through August 31, 2024. The sale ran for two days and ended Saturday at midnight AEST. The Nightly’s June 7, 2024 report, updated June 8, is the source for the sale details.
What the June 2024 sale offered
The report described selected Virgin Australia domestic fares for the July–August 2024 travel period. Its route list gave prices as starting fares: availability at those amounts was not guaranteed for every date or seat. The sale is no longer bookable.
The Nightly’s opening says flights were available from $49, while its route list gives Sydney–Byron Bay (Ballina) from $45. The lowest figure below is therefore the route-list price, with that discrepancy noted rather than resolved.

What is—and is not—known about the fares
The report does not identify the 2024 fare class or specify baggage allowance, seat-selection inclusion, or full booking terms. It therefore cannot establish the total trip cost or whether a fare suited a particular traveller’s needs. Do not assume conditions from a later Virgin Australia sale applied to these fares.
For a school-holiday trip, the practical comparison would have been the price for the exact route and dates against the traveller’s total needs. A low advertised starting fare alone does not show whether the required itinerary or inclusions were available.

Virgin Australia announced a separate promotion on July 20, 2026, running through July 27 for selected travel dates from August 25, 2026, to June 22, 2027. That offer is unrelated to the expired June 2024 sale and does not make the historical fares available now.
