That figure remains unverified in the available official materials. The aircraft are replacing the airline’s Fokker F100s and are intended mainly for charter flying, as well as regional commercial operations.
What is the deal?
Embraer announced on 12 August 2024 that Virgin Australia had placed a firm order for eight E190-E2s as part of a fleet renewal. Embraer said deliveries were scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025. The announcement describes the E190-E2s as smaller aircraft that complement Virgin Australia’s larger narrowbodies and replace its long-serving Fokker fleet. Embraer’s announcement does not disclose an order price or establish a $300 million transaction value.
How many aircraft has Virgin Australia received?
The order quantity and delivered-fleet count are different snapshots. Virgin Australia’s interim report says the first two leased E190-E2s arrived in the first half of FY26, with two more leased aircraft expected in the second half. Its fleet page lists five E190-E2s as of 24 June 2026. These figures reflect the dates and wording of the respective company reports; they should not be read as a single, fully reconciled delivery schedule.
Where will the E190-E2s fly, and what will they replace?
Embraer says the aircraft are based in Perth and operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines. Virgin Australia’s interim report identifies the E190-E2s as replacements for the Fokker F100s. Embraer describes their intended work as predominantly charter flying, alongside regional commercial operations.

What is known about the $300 million figure?
The official Embraer order announcement reviewed for this article confirms eight aircraft but gives no transaction value. The reviewed airline materials also do not establish a $300 million price for the order. Without a substantiated source and valuation basis, the figure should not be treated as the confirmed price of Virgin Australia’s E190-E2 deal.
What does the 2026 maintenance agreement add?
On 3 February 2026, Embraer announced a long-term AHEAD agreement with Virgin Australia for predictive-maintenance support for the airline’s E2 fleet. Embraer says the service monitors aircraft systems and applies analytics to help predict potential issues. The announcement describes intended capabilities; it does not report measured Virgin Australia results for reduced downtime or maintenance costs.

How should the emissions claim be understood?
Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said in Embraer’s 2024 announcement that the E190-E2 would reduce emissions by about 30 per cent compared with the outgoing F100. That is the company’s stated comparison. The available materials do not provide independent, like-for-like operating data validating the estimate, so it should not be presented as an independently measured outcome.
