Vibrantz Technologies announced on August 30, 2024, that it had acquired Micro Abrasives Corporation, a U.S. manufacturer of specialty calcined alumina. Vibrantz presented the deal as an expansion of its Advanced Materials capabilities, pointing to Micro Abrasives’ existing uses in automotive refinishing, optics polishing and industrial lapping—including materials used in semiconductor wafer production. The announcement did not disclose a purchase price or detailed financial terms.
What Micro Abrasives makes
Micro Abrasives manufactured specialty calcined alumina, an industrial material used in abrasive and polishing products. Vibrantz said its products served three main application areas:
- Automotive refinishing: liquid abrasives used in automotive polish formulations.
- Optics and photonics: precision powders and slurries used for polishing.
- Industrial lapping: materials used in manufacturing processes, including semiconductor wafer production.
These are industrial supply-chain applications; the announcement did not identify a consumer retail product. Vibrantz described Micro Abrasives as based in Westfield, Massachusetts, and said it had 50 employees across facilities in Westfield and Alexandria, Louisiana, at the time of the announcement. Why Vibrantz said it made the acquisition
Vibrantz described Micro Abrasives as a complementary fit for its Advanced Materials business. CEO D. Michael Wilson highlighted alumina-based lapping materials used in semiconductor wafer production as a new pathway for Vibrantz. The company also pointed to potential development opportunities in automotive surface technologies and plastic lens polishing.

Those statements explain the acquirer’s strategic rationale, not confirmed post-acquisition results. The announcement did not report launched products, realized synergies, revenue gains or other quantified outcomes from the proposed opportunities.
What the deal means for semiconductor wafer materials
The semiconductor connection is through industrial lapping materials: Vibrantz said Micro Abrasives’ alumina-based products were used in the production of semiconductor wafers. That makes wafer manufacturing a relevant application for the acquired capabilities, but the announcement did not specify customers, wafer processes, product performance, supply volumes or the size of this business.

Vibrantz’s 2024 CSR report, released May 7, 2025, later recapped the acquisition and again associated Micro Abrasives’ calcined alumina with auto refinishing, optics polishing, industrial lapping and wafer-related slurries. The August 2024 announcement established the acquisition, the acquired company’s general product applications, its employee count and its two facilities. It did not disclose a purchase price, deal value, financing details or other detailed transaction terms. It also did not quantify expected synergies or compare the markets by revenue, growth or size.

At announcement time, Vibrantz said it would continue selling products under the Micro Abrasives name during a transition period to maintain customer continuity. That dated statement does not establish the current brand, sales arrangement or availability of any product. The announcement and Vibrantz’s later CSR recap also do not establish whether the prospective automotive and plastic-lens applications led to launched products.
