Paul Ryan became Vertiv’s president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) on January 1, 2026, succeeding Karsten Winther. Vertiv announced the planned handover in October 2025: Winther was to remain in the role through December 31, 2025, then retire from it.
Who is Vertiv’s new EMEA president?
Paul Ryan was Vertiv’s chief procurement officer when the company announced his appointment. Vertiv’s October 13, 2025 U.S. announcement described his experience in industry, procurement, supply chain and regional operations. His official executive biography now lists him as EMEA president from January 1, 2026.
The biography describes Ryan as having more than 25 years of experience across global supply chains, engineering and operations. That is a broader description than the announcement’s figures of more than 20 years in the industry and more than eight years leading Vertiv’s global procurement and supply chain; the figures refer to different experience scopes and sources.
When did Paul Ryan take over from Karsten Winther?
Ryan’s appointment took effect January 1, 2026. Winther’s retirement from the EMEA president role was effective December 31, 2025, and Vertiv said he would stay in the position through year-end to support the transition. The company’s EMEA announcement, dated October 22, 2025, gave the same transition dates as the U.S. release.

Vertiv later confirmed the change in both Ryan’s executive biography and its 2026 proxy statement, which says he has served as EMEA president since January 1, 2026, after serving as chief procurement officer from May 2023 through December 2025.
Why did Vertiv appoint Ryan?
Vertiv’s stated rationale emphasized Ryan’s experience in procurement and supply-chain leadership, together with his operating roles in EMEA and Asia Pacific. The company said he had led procurement and supply-chain transformation and brought regional and global execution experience. Those points explain Vertiv’s stated reason for choosing him; they are not an independent assessment of his performance or the effect of the appointment.

In the announcement, CEO Giordano Albertazzi said Ryan’s industry and technology experience, commercial acumen, regional and global execution record, and supply-chain and procurement expertise made him suited to build on Vertiv’s EMEA foundation. Albertazzi also credited Winther with strengthening the region through complex market dynamics.
