Verizon was not offering cash for using an Android phone. For Black Friday 2025, Android Central reported that qualifying phone purchases could come with a $200 Verizon gift card, sometimes stacked with a phone offer whose savings arrived as monthly bill credits. The featured phones included the Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S25. That promotion is historical, not a deal to assume is still available in 2026; check Verizon’s live offer and its terms before buying.
What Verizon offered for Black Friday 2025
Android Central reported on November 28, 2025, that Verizon was offering a $200 gift card with many qualifying Google Pixel and Samsung smartphone purchases, reportedly without requiring a trade-in. The coverage said the gift card could stack with selected phone promotions. These are reported details of a past offer, not confirmation of current terms.
The advertised value had two distinct parts:
- Gift card: a $200 Verizon gift card, not a $200 reduction in the phone’s retail price or unrestricted cash. Android Central reported it could be used for items such as accessories, smartwatches or a Verizon balance, but the precise redemption terms and delivery timing should be confirmed in the promotion’s terms.
- Phone savings: typically monthly device credits that offset installment payments over time. They are not cash paid to the customer.
Android Central described the gift card as applying to most smartphone purchases on Verizon myPlan options, including Unlimited Welcome, Unlimited Plus and Unlimited Ultimate. A particular phone promotion could still have narrower plan or line requirements.

- Google Pixel 10: described as free with a new line on select unlimited plans, plus the $200 gift card.
- Samsung Galaxy S25: similarly described as free with a qualifying new line and the gift card.
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra bundle: the coverage described a bundle with a Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Tab S10 FE on higher-tier plans, plus the gift card. A bundle can involve separate service charges for connected devices.
Verizon announced Pixel 10-series availability in August 2025 and separately described a Pixel 10 Pro promotion involving a qualifying trade-in and Unlimited Ultimate. How a “free” phone becomes free
With carrier financing, the installment charge and promotional credit appear as separate items on the bill. For example, a $799.99 phone divided over 36 months costs about $22.22 per month before credits. If the promotion provides a matching $22.22 monthly credit for all 36 months, the net device payments are offset over the full term. The customer does not receive that amount in cash.
Verizon says promotional credits commonly run over a 36-month device-payment or promotional term and may take one or two billing cycles to appear. Who qualified—and did a trade-in matter?
Android Central reported that the specific Black Friday gift-card examples did not require a trade-in. That should not be generalized to other Verizon offers: Verizon says trade-in requirements vary, and promotions may instead require an eligible trade-in, a new line, a particular plan or some combination.
- New line: Some of the strongest device offers require a new smartphone line. Read whether the offer says “new line,” rather than assuming an upgrade qualifies.
- Existing-customer upgrade: Upgrade eligibility can differ from adding a line. Verizon notes that existing customers may see account-specific offers in My Verizon.
- Plan: Check the plan named in the phone’s offer, not just the plans listed for the gift card. Some specified promotions require maintaining a qualifying plan for 36 months. Verizon’s Unlimited Plus FAQ describes that condition for certain offers.
- Trade-in, when required: Eligibility, condition and final value depend on the promotion and Verizon’s inspection. Verizon’s general guidance includes a working device, functioning intact screen, undamaged battery and disabled activation lock; specific offers may add requirements. Some existing-customer promotions require the traded device to have been active on the account for 60 consecutive days.
For a trade-in, Verizon says promotional credit begins after it receives and verifies the device; timing and credit format depend on the offer. Check the specific terms and follow Verizon’s trade-in instructions. The trade-in program terms explain that the final value can depend on the model, eligibility and condition. Android users should disable Find My Device and other activation locks before returning a phone.
What can end the credits?
Verizon warns that promotional credits can stop if a customer cancels the promoted line, pays off the device early, upgrades early or changes to an ineligible plan. Exact exceptions depend on the promotion. If the device is still financed when service is canceled, the unpaid balance may become due.

For illustration, leaving after 12 months of a 36-month credit schedule means only 12 months of scheduled credits have been received; remaining credits generally do not continue after eligibility ends. This is an example of the structure, not a guarantee about every offer. A line transfer may preserve credits only under qualifying conditions, and a plan that does not qualify can remove promotional pricing. See Verizon’s service-transfer guidance.
Costs and snags to include in the calculation
- Sales tax, which may be based on the phone’s full retail price.
- Activation or upgrade charges, if applicable.
- Monthly service, government taxes and regulatory fees.
- The cost of a required plan compared with the plan you would otherwise choose.
- Any device amount not covered by the credits.
- Separate service for a bundled watch or tablet, plus related taxes and fees.
- Accessories or device protection, if you choose them.
The first one or two bills may show the full installment charge before promotional credits begin. If credits have not appeared after that, check the order and promotion details before making a plan change or paying off the phone.

- Save the order confirmation and promotion terms.
- Check the first two bills for a “Device Promo” credit and confirm the phone, line and plan are correct.
- If the offer required a trade-in, keep its shipment receipt and tracking details.
- Contact Verizon about a missing credit before changing the plan or paying off the device.
How to compare Verizon with an unlocked phone
Compare costs over the same 36-month period. Include only a gift card’s value that you can realistically use, and count the plan cost you would actually pay—not simply the phone’s advertised value.

Verizon effective cost = required Verizon service + device taxes and fees + uncovered device payments + applicable activation or upgrade charges − promotional credits actually received − usable gift-card value.
Unlocked effective cost = phone price + taxes − manufacturer discount or trade-in value + the cost of comparable wireless service.
Verizon is more compelling if you already want its service and plan to keep the qualifying line for the full credit term. Buying unlocked from the Google Store or Samsung can suit someone who values carrier flexibility, expects to switch before three years, does not need a new line, or would otherwise pay extra for Verizon’s required plan. Also compare the offer from your current carrier and any manufacturer trade-in or instant discount.

How to check a Verizon offer now
The 2025 promotion should not be treated as active in 2026. Verizon says deals can change and may be limited by availability. A headline or old deal page is not proof that the same terms remain in force.
