Seattle-based Boundless Immigration announced on October 1, 2025, that it had acquired Localyze, a Europe-founded global-mobility and immigration platform. Boundless says the deal will join its U.S. and Americas services with Localyze’s European expertise. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or other financial terms.

What the acquisition includes—and what remains undisclosed

The companies described the transaction as an acquisition, not a merger. Localyze serves employers managing employee immigration and relocation, with services that include visas, work and residence permits, destination support, business-trip compliance, and workations. The announcement named General Catalyst and Y Combinator as Localyze backers. (Boundless announcement; Business Wire release)

The public announcement did not state the purchase price, valuation, cash-versus-stock mix, financing terms, or whether Localyze investors received a return. It also did not specify closing conditions, regulatory review, or whether all Localyze employees joined Boundless. Those details should be treated as undisclosed, not inferred from the companies’ strategic language.

Why Boundless wanted a European mobility platform

Boundless began with a strong U.S. immigration focus, including technology-assisted family immigration, and has expanded toward employer-sponsored services. Localyze adds European operations and employer workflows to that business. The combined-company pitch is that multinational employers could coordinate immigration, relocation, and related compliance through one provider rather than stitching together vendors country by country.

That proposition also creates potential cross-selling: Boundless business customers could seek European services, while Localyze customers could use Boundless for U.S. immigration. Boundless has described a broader pathway offering that includes U.S. EB-1A, EB-2 NIW, and O-1 routes, the U.K. Skilled Worker route, and the EU Blue Card. These are stated areas of intended support, not a guarantee that Boundless directly handles every matter in every jurisdiction. (Boundless on welcoming Localyze)

What Localyze brings to employers

Localyze is more than a visa application app. Its employer-focused services combine immigration casework with employee relocation and settling-in support. Its product scope includes work-permit and residence-permit applications or renewals, business-trip and workation compliance, case tracking, budget management, HRIS integrations, and managed or self-service workflows. The company is headquartered in Berlin, according to contemporary coverage. (GeekWire; Localyze)

Localyze’s website reports more than 10,000 relocations, a 4.75 average customer-satisfaction score, and a 4.9 rating; it does not fully explain the rating methodology. These are company-reported marketing figures, not independently audited outcomes. The site lists Delivery Hero, Babbel, Personio, Urban Sports Club, and Blacklane as customer examples. Boundless separately says Localyze spent eight years building European expertise and technology; that is Boundless’s post-acquisition characterization. (Localyze; Boundless FAQs)

Boundless’s acquisition strategy predates Localyze

The Localyze deal fits a longer shift from individual immigration assistance toward business immigration and broader mobility services. Boundless announced a $7.8 million Series A in March 2019, acquired RapidVisa in 2020, and announced a $25 million Series B in April 2021. It announced the acquisition of business-immigration company Bridge in February 2025, before Localyze. Boundless says more than 100,000 individuals have used its services; that is a company claim, not independently verified customer data. Global reach does not mean identical in-house coverage everywhere

Boundless describes its current model as in-house teams in the United States and Europe, supplemented by a vetted partner network across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. That distinction matters: the company’s global footprint includes partner-supported markets, and should not be read as proof that Boundless directly employs immigration specialists in every country. (Boundless Global Immigration)

For employers evaluating the service, the key questions are practical: which countries are handled in-house, who is the legal provider in each location, what HRIS systems integrate, how dependents and mid-case job changes are handled, and what response and escalation commitments apply? Buyers should also establish whether government filing charges, translations, medical exams, courier costs, and other third-party expenses are included. Boundless says enterprise pricing is customized to country mix, case volume, and service level; it does not publish a standard global subscription price. (Boundless FAQs)

Customers still face open integration questions

Boundless says its customers gain European expertise and Localyze workflows, while Localyze customers gain access to Boundless’s U.S. capabilities. But public materials do not establish whether the two software platforms have been technically merged, whether customers share one login, whether service levels or prices changed, or how legal work is allocated among employees and outside partners. Localyze’s website remains available while Boundless markets “Boundless Global,” which indicates ongoing public-facing services but does not settle the final brand or systems structure. (Localyze; Boundless Global Immigration)

Those unknowns matter during any vendor transition. Employers should confirm where records will live, who owns each case, how employee data moves across jurisdictions, and whom workers should contact if a case is delayed or duplicated. Immigration platforms can organize documents and workflows; they cannot control government processing times, eligibility rules, or visa decisions. Automation and predictive tools, where offered, do not replace qualified legal review of exceptions or guarantee an approval.

Layoffs preceded the announcement

GeekWire reported that Boundless carried out a reduction in force on September 25, 2025, days before announcing Localyze, and that the company’s workforce was reduced to approximately 500 employees. Boundless did not disclose how many people were affected. The timing raises reasonable questions about staffing and integration, but available reporting does not establish that the cuts were caused by or directly tied to the acquisition. (GeekWire report)

What the deal signals for the market

The acquisition reflects competition to combine immigration legal services, relocation, compliance, and HR technology under a more coordinated employer-facing offering. A single provider may reduce vendor handoffs and centralize case visibility, particularly for employers moving staff between the United States and Europe. The trade-off is concentration risk: a broad platform may be less tailored than a specialist firm, and “global” coverage may depend on local partners whose accountability and expertise buyers should verify.

For employees, a central dashboard or broader service menu does not by itself mean faster government decisions or a better outcome. National immigration rules still govern each case, and dependents, job changes, work locations, and unusual circumstances can require distinct advice. The acquisition is therefore best understood as a bet on simpler coordination across countries—not as evidence that cross-border immigration has become uniform or predictable.
