Yes—Verizon promised a $20 account credit to customers affected by its January 14, 2026 wireless outage. Eligible customers can accept the credit through the official myVerizon app after Verizon makes it available. Verizon said customers would receive a text notification, while small-business customers would be contacted directly.
The credit is tied to the account, not automatically to every line, and Verizon has not published a complete eligibility list or universal posting deadline.

What happened during Verizon’s outage?
Verizon experienced a major wireless-service outage on January 14, 2026. Customers reported phones showing SOS, failed calls and texts, and unavailable cellular data. Verizon later said service had been restored at 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time and advised customers who still could not reconnect to restart their devices.

What credit is Verizon offering?
Verizon said affected customers would receive a $20 account credit. The company described it as an acknowledgment of customers’ time and disruption, not as full compensation for every consequence of the outage.
This is an account credit rather than cash. It is also not a lawsuit settlement, damages award, or statutory refund. Verizon’s announcement does not describe an admission of legal liability.
Per account or per line?
The available reporting describes the offer as $20 per account, not $20 for each affected line. Do not assume that a family plan with five phones will receive five separate $20 credits. Check the offer displayed in your Verizon account, because Verizon’s public announcement did not provide a detailed line-by-line formula.
Who is likely to qualify?
Verizon’s wording is important: the offer is for customers affected by the outage. It does not say that every Verizon customer automatically qualifies.

Eligibility appears to be determined by Verizon using account and network-impact information. The company has not publicly provided a complete eligibility matrix, affected-area boundary, minimum outage duration, or outage-detection threshold.
In particular, Verizon has not clearly specified in the cited announcement whether the offer applies to:
- Prepaid customers;
- Fios customers;
- 5G Home or other home-internet customers;
- Customers who experienced only brief or intermittent problems;
- Former customers who canceled after the outage; or
- Accounts that were inactive or not in good standing when the offer became available.

Family plans and multiple Verizon services
For a family plan, the relevant credit may appear on the overall account rather than on each phone line. If your Verizon login includes wireless, Fios, or home-internet services, check the account associated with the affected wireless service instead of assuming that every linked service qualifies.

How to claim the Verizon outage credit
- Open the official myVerizon app directly.
- Sign in to the Verizon account connected to the affected wireless service.
- Look for a notification, message, or offer concerning the January 2026 outage credit.
- Select the option to accept or redeem the $20 account credit.
- Confirm that the credit was accepted or recorded.
- Save a screenshot or confirmation for your records.
Verizon said customers would receive a text message when the credit became available in myVerizon. The company’s public announcement does not provide a fixed, detailed menu path, so labels may differ in the app or website. How to avoid Verizon credit scams
Because Verizon said customers would receive a text notification, scammers may try to imitate the offer. Protect yourself by following these rules:
- Open the myVerizon app or type Verizon’s website address yourself instead of clicking an unsolicited message link.
- Never provide your Verizon password or one-time verification code to someone claiming to process the credit.
- Do not provide your Social Security number or payment-card information merely to receive the account credit.
- Do not pay a shipping charge, processing fee, gift-card payment, or “verification” charge.
- Do not install a third-party app to claim the credit.
What to do if the credit is missing
If you believe your service was affected but cannot find the offer, use this sequence:
- Check the correct account. Make sure you are signed in as the account owner or authorized manager for the affected wireless service.
- Check both access methods. Review the myVerizon app and the Verizon website.
- Refresh the app. Update myVerizon, sign out, and sign back in.
- Review your next bill. Look for an account-level adjustment rather than expecting a separate cash payment.
- Gather evidence. Keep the January 14 outage date, affected phone number, account number, screenshots, and any Verizon messages.

Those community responses do not establish universal eligibility, but they provide an escalation route for customers whose offers are missing. Does restarting your phone affect eligibility?
No evidence indicates that restarting a device cancels or changes eligibility. Verizon recommended restarting phones only to help customers reconnect after service was restored.
