Yes—Verizon announced a one-time $20 account credit for customers it identified as affected by the company’s January 14, 2026 wireless outage. Verizon said customers would receive a text when the offer became available and could review and accept it through the My Verizon app or account. Small-business customers were to be contacted directly.
What happened during the Verizon outage?
The widespread outage began on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Many customers reported problems with wireless calls, texting, cellular data and connectivity, including phones displaying “SOS.” Verizon said service was restored at approximately 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time—roughly 10 hours after the disruption began.

Verizon’s public statement described the impact as affecting “many” customers. That does not establish that every Verizon customer nationwide lost service, or that every local outage was part of the same incident. If your phone remained disconnected after service was restored, Verizon advised restarting the device.
Some secondary reports attributed the outage to a software issue. Verizon’s cited announcement did not provide a detailed technical root-cause explanation, so the cause should not be treated as independently established here.

How to claim the $20 Verizon credit
- Open the My Verizon app manually, or sign in through Verizon’s official website.
- Check the account overview, notifications and billing sections for an outage-credit offer.
- Review the offer and select the displayed option to accept or redeem it.
- Check your account activity or subsequent bill for the one-time credit.
Verizon said it would text customers when the credit was available in My Verizon. For safety, do not rely on a link in an unexpected message: open the app or official website yourself instead. The offer is an account credit, not a cash payment or a refund to a bank card. Verizon’s announcement did not promise that it would appear immediately or on a particular bill.
Who is eligible?
Verizon’s public wording is that the credit is for customers affected by the January 14 outage. The announcement does not provide a complete eligibility table, a public enrollment deadline or a formula explaining whether the credit is based on an affected line, device or billing account.
It also does not establish whether customers with multiple affected lines receive $20 per line, whether prepaid customers qualify, how cancelled accounts are handled, or whether Fios-only customers are included. Do not assume that a separate local outage qualifies, or that every Verizon customer automatically receives $20.

What to do if the offer is missing
- Confirm that you are signed into the correct My Verizon account and, where applicable, the account-owner profile.
- Check notifications, the account overview, billing activity and recent bills.
- Update or restart the My Verizon app, then sign in again.
- Verify whether the affected phone number belongs to another Verizon account.
- Check whether the credit may already have been accepted and applied.
- Contact Verizon through the official app, Verizon’s website or an official support account.
When contacting support, specifically ask them to verify eligibility for the January 14, 2026 outage credit, rather than requesting a generic outage adjustment. Keep screenshots of relevant outage notices, account screens and Verizon messages. Customer reports in Verizon’s community forum show that some people could not initially find the credit, but those reports do not establish a universal eligibility rule or guarantee that every claim will be approved.
Watch for outage-credit scams
A genuine Verizon credit offer does not require an upfront fee, payment-card details or an urgent account-verification payment. Never enter your Verizon password, payment information or one-time security code into an unfamiliar page opened from a text message.

Is this different from Verizon’s normal outage policy?
Yes. The $20 credit was a special, incident-specific offer following the January 2026 mass outage. It should not be confused with Verizon’s ordinary wireless service-interruption terms.
Verizon’s Mobile Customer Agreement generally discusses credits for certain service interruptions lasting more than 24 consecutive hours when Verizon is at fault and the customer makes a qualifying request within the stated period. That provision does not mean that every 10-hour outage automatically triggers a $20 credit. The January offer was a separate goodwill credit.

What the credit does—and does not—cover
Verizon said the credit was intended to provide relief and acknowledged that it was not full compensation for the disruption. The company said the amount would, on average, cover multiple days of service.
Nothing in the announcement characterizes the payment as a legal settlement, regulatory penalty, admission of liability or reimbursement for lost wages, missed business, emergency costs or other consequential losses. It also does not promise $20 for every affected line.
