VAST Data’s financing is no longer merely “in talks.” On April 22, 2026, the private AI-infrastructure company announced that it had closed a Series F financing at a $30 billion valuation, involving approximately $1 billion in combined primary and secondary capital.
The completed round followed an August 1, 2025 Reuters report that Alphabet’s growth-investment arm CapitalG and existing investor NVIDIA were discussing participation in a possible round valuing VAST at up to $30 billion. However, VAST’s final announcement named Drive Capital and Access Industries as the round’s lead investors and identified NVIDIA among the participants. It did not name CapitalG.

What happened to the reported VAST Data funding round?
The original report described a potential transaction, not a completed financing. Reuters reported that CapitalG and NVIDIA were in talks to invest in a new VAST Data round that could value the company at as much as $30 billion. The deal was reportedly worth several billion dollars and might close within weeks.

That status changed on April 22, 2026, when VAST announced that it had closed its Series F at a $30 billion valuation. The result confirmed the broad valuation reported in 2025, but it did not establish that every investor mentioned in the earlier report joined the final round.
VAST Data funding timeline
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| Late 2023 | VAST’s Series E valued the company at approximately $9.1 billion. |
| August 1, 2025 | Reuters reported potential CapitalG and NVIDIA participation at a valuation of up to $30 billion. |
| April 22, 2026 | VAST announced the closing of its Series F at a $30 billion valuation. |
| August 18, 2026 | The latest verified status is a completed financing, not a pending proposal. |
Who invested in the Series F?
According to VAST’s announcement:
- Drive Capital led the financing.
- Access Industries co-led the round.
- Fidelity Management & Research Company, NEA, and NVIDIA participated alongside other investors.
The public announcement did not name CapitalG. That means the accurate conclusion is that CapitalG was reportedly considering an investment in 2025, but its participation in the completed Series F has not been established by the disclosed investor list. It would be incorrect to state that CapitalG funded the final round without additional confirmation.
Why the $1 billion figure needs context
VAST described the Series F as involving approximately $1 billion in combined primary and secondary capital.
Primary capital is money invested directly into the company, increasing its cash available for growth, hiring, research, infrastructure, acquisitions, or other corporate purposes. Secondary capital is used to buy shares from existing shareholders. That money generally goes to the selling shareholders rather than to VAST.
Therefore, the $1 billion transaction value should not automatically be described as $1 billion of new operating cash. VAST said primary proceeds would support global growth and strategic transactions. Co-founder Jeff Denworth also said the funds would remain on the company’s balance sheet alongside cash reserves, but that is management’s explanation rather than independently audited balance-sheet analysis.
The announcement did not disclose the exact split between primary and secondary capital, individual investor check sizes, preferred-share rights, or the detailed terms of the financing.

What does VAST Data do?
VAST began as a distributed data-storage company focused on high-performance file and object workloads. Its current positioning is broader: VAST describes its platform as an AI Operating System combining storage, database, compute, vector search, retrieval, and related data services.
In practical terms, the platform is intended to help organizations store, organize, retrieve, and process the enormous datasets used by AI systems. Those datasets can include training data, inference inputs, documents, images, video, telemetry, structured records, and application-generated content.
VAST’s platform is designed to support:
- Large-scale file and object storage for AI training and inference.
- Parallel access by GPU clusters and other compute resources.
- Database and real-time analytics workloads.
- Vector search and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Agentic-AI applications that need fast access to changing data.
- Data management across storage, compute, and database functions.
Its architecture is called DASE, or Disaggregated and Shared Everything. The basic idea is to separate resources while allowing them to be shared across workloads, rather than forcing each application or compute cluster to maintain isolated infrastructure layers.
“AI Operating System” is VAST’s product positioning, not a universally defined technical category. Buyers should evaluate the actual interfaces, deployment model, supported protocols, hardware requirements, performance, security controls, and operating costs behind that description.
Why storage matters to AI infrastructure
AI systems are often discussed as if GPUs and models are the entire technology stack. They are not. GPUs are expensive and powerful, but they need a continuous supply of data. If storage or data-management systems cannot deliver that data quickly enough, compute resources may spend time waiting rather than processing.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
That makes throughput, latency, metadata performance, parallel access, data locality, and operational simplicity important parts of AI infrastructure. The challenge is especially significant when organizations train models on very large datasets or serve many inference requests simultaneously.

A storage platform that helps move data efficiently between GPU systems and persistent storage can therefore occupy a strategically important position beneath AI applications. It does not manufacture GPUs, but it can be part of the infrastructure required to operate them at scale.
VAST has expanded its collaboration with NVIDIA around accelerated data services and CUDA-related infrastructure. The companies’ relationship is relevant because NVIDIA is a major part of the AI-computing ecosystem. It does not, by itself, prove that VAST delivers a particular improvement in GPU utilization or that the platform is optimal for every workload.
Why NVIDIA and CapitalG were interested
The precise motives of private investors were not disclosed, so the following are strategic interpretations rather than confirmed explanations.
NVIDIA’s possible rationale
NVIDIA was already an investor in VAST and participated in the Series F. VAST operates in the data layer beneath GPU clusters, and its integration with NVIDIA’s accelerated-computing ecosystem could make AI infrastructure easier to deploy and operate at scale.
For NVIDIA, supporting complementary infrastructure may help expand the usefulness of its GPU platform beyond the chip itself. VAST’s data services could also be relevant to customers building retrieval, analytics, training, and inference systems around NVIDIA hardware.
There is a potential trade-off for customers: close integration with NVIDIA may provide technical advantages, but organizations using AMD accelerators, custom chips, or a mixed environment should test interoperability rather than assume that a NVIDIA-centered architecture is neutral or optimal.

CapitalG’s possible rationale
Alphabet’s CapitalG invests in growth-stage technology companies. A data platform designed for large-scale AI workloads would logically fit the broader expansion of AI infrastructure, although the available evidence establishes only that CapitalG was reportedly in talks in 2025—not that it invested in the Series F.
Why did VAST’s valuation rise from $9.1 billion to $30 billion?
VAST’s announced valuation rose from approximately $9.1 billion in its late-2023 Series E to $30 billion in the Series F. That is more than a tripling, or roughly 3.3 times the earlier valuation. It should not be interpreted as a guaranteed return for every shareholder because private financings can involve different share classes, preferences, dilution, and secondary transactions.
Potential factors behind the increase include:
- Continued demand for AI data-center infrastructure.
- Investor interest in companies supplying the “picks and shovels” of AI.
- VAST’s positioning in AI-native cloud, model-training, and inference environments.
- Reported revenue and bookings momentum.
- Claims of positive operating margin and free cash flow.
The 2025 Reuters-based coverage reported approximately $200 million in annual recurring revenue by January 2025 and a projection of $600 million in ARR the following year. Those were reported figures and a projection at the time, not audited public-company financial statements.
In its April 2026 announcement, VAST said it had more than $500 million in committed ARR, more than $4 billion in cumulative bookings, positive operating margin, and positive free cash flow. These are company-reported figures. Investors would need detailed financial statements to assess revenue recognition, customer concentration, renewal rates, cash conversion, and the distinction between bookings, committed ARR, and recognized revenue.
VAST also reported a Rule of X score of 228%. That is a company-selected growth-and-profitability measure, not a standardized accounting metric. It should not be compared with other companies without first reviewing VAST’s definition and calculation.

What the deal means for investors
VAST remains a private company. Its $30 billion figure is a private-market financing valuation, not a public-market capitalization. Ordinary investors generally cannot buy VAST shares through a normal brokerage account, and the financing price should not be treated as a continuously quoted market price.
A private valuation reflects negotiated expectations, share-class terms, limited liquidity, and the balance between primary and secondary transactions. It is evidence that investors were willing to finance VAST at that valuation, but it is not proof that the company would command the same price in a public market.

NVIDIA’s investment may be strategically helpful, but it does not independently validate every product or financial claim made by VAST.
What the deal means for enterprise buyers
The financing could give VAST more resources for product development, global expansion, partnerships, and strategic transactions. It does not eliminate the need for technical and commercial diligence.
A serious evaluation should ask:
- Does the platform support the required file, object, database, and application interfaces?
- What hardware, networking, and deployment model are required?
- How does it integrate with the organization’s GPUs, AMD or custom accelerators, Kubernetes, MLOps, and security stack?
- What are the migration, replication, disaster-recovery, and exit costs?
- Can capacity scale incrementally, or is a large initial commitment required?
- How does performance change under mixed workloads?
- What are the pricing and contract commitments for capacity, performance, hardware, software, support, and services?
- Which customer references operate at a comparable scale?
VAST is not a retail NAS product or an ordinary consumer cloud-storage subscription. Its likely fit is large AI, analytics, cloud, or data-center environments where performance and data-platform consolidation justify enterprise-scale deployment and integration work.
Bottom line
The accurate current headline is that VAST Data closed a Series F at a $30 billion valuation on April 22, 2026. The financing followed a 2025 report about possible CapitalG and NVIDIA participation, but the final announcement named Drive Capital and Access Industries as the leads and NVIDIA among the participants without naming CapitalG.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe deal highlights how AI infrastructure value is spreading beyond chips and models into storage, databases, retrieval, and data orchestration. It also carries important caveats: approximately $1 billion included primary and secondary capital, VAST’s financial metrics are company-reported, and a private financing valuation is not the same as a public-market price.
