Valve May Add a 30-Day Steam Price History—But It Isn’t Confirmed

Steam database strings reportedly hint at a 30-day low-price feature, but no public launch is confirmed. Here’s what the reports say and how to check game prices now.

Valve may be testing a Steam feature that would show whether a game is at its lowest price in the past 30 days, but the feature has not been confirmed as a public launch. Reports in April 2026 described price-tracking text found in Steam’s database; they do not establish when—or whether—the feature will appear in the store. For now, shoppers can check third-party price-history tools such as SteamDB before deciding whether a sale is worthwhile.

What the reports say about Steam’s possible price-history feature

Tom’s Hardware reported on April 15, 2026, that Steam database changes included strings referring to price tracking and whether a game had reached its lowest price in the previous 30 days. The outlet suggested this information might appear in the store’s purchase area, but that placement is an inference, not a confirmed design specification: Tom’s Hardware’s report.

On April 16, 2026, PC Gamer described strings including “30-Day low” and language about whether a game had been discounted recently. PC Gamer also cautioned that database functionality could be an experiment that never reaches Steam’s live client: PC Gamer’s report.

HotHardware likewise reported database clues pointing to a possible broader rollout and said price-history tooling was available to some users in the EU. The reports do not establish the feature’s current country coverage, whether Valve has expanded it, or whether the described feature has shipped: HotHardware’s report.

What a 30-day low could—and could not—tell you

If introduced as described, a 30-day low could help reveal whether a sale price is lower than the game’s recent price. That is useful context for a short-term purchase decision, but it would not amount to a complete price history: a 30-day window cannot show the full range of prices over a game’s lifetime. The reports do not establish how the feature would calculate or display prices.

Nor would a recent-low indicator prove that every sale is a good deal or prevent every misleading sale claim. It would be a limited-window signal, not a judgment about value or a guarantee about a game’s longer-term pricing.

What Valve’s discount rules already require

Valve’s Steamworks documentation says that pricing transparency for customers is a central reason for its discount rules: “A central motivation for these rules is to increase pricing transparency to customers.” The documented policy includes several 30-day cooldowns, with specific exceptions: Steamworks discounting documentation.

  • After release: A game generally has a 30-day cooldown before it can be discounted. A launch discount is an exception under the conditions Valve specifies.
  • After a base-price increase: A 30-day cooldown applies after a price increase in any currency.
  • Between discounts: A 30-day cooldown generally applies. Seasonal sales are exempt from this between-discount cooldown, but not from the release or price-increase cooldowns.

These are rules about when certain discounts may be offered. They do not mean a displayed sale percentage captures the game’s entire price history or that every discount follows the same timeline regardless of exceptions.

How to check a Steam game’s price history now

While Valve’s possible native feature remains unconfirmed, shoppers can use third-party tools for historical context. PC Gamer and Tom’s Hardware point to SteamDB, which Tom’s Hardware describes as offering all-time price history and regional price information. HotHardware also mentions Augmented Steam and its integration with IsThereAnyDeal. These are independent services, not Valve products or endorsements.

  • For a longer view: SteamDB can help you compare the current price with historical prices, including regional information.
  • For an in-store aid: Augmented Steam is a browser extension described by HotHardware as integrating with IsThereAnyDeal.
  • Before buying: Check the game’s price history for the region and currency you actually use; pricing can differ by region.

The reported Steam feature, if it arrives, could make a recent-price signal easier to see without leaving the store. Third-party history tools offer a different kind of context, including longer-term history, but require using an outside service.
