Sportster 883: Iron, Custom, and SuperLow
Multiple listings surfaced for Sportster 883 variants below $5,000, making the 883 family a sensible starting point. Search across Iron, Custom, and SuperLow trims rather than assuming a specific trim or year will fit your budget. Compare the bike’s condition and service history; a low asking price does not establish that it is ready to ride.

Sportster 1200 Custom and Roadster

Older Low Rider and Dyna
An 1986 Low Rider was listed below $5,000 in the marketplace results. That makes it a lead for a local search, not an endorsement of the model’s reliability or the specific motorcycle’s condition. For an older bike, give the maintenance record, current state, and any modifications careful attention.
Softail Deuce
A 2001 Softail Deuce appeared below $5,000 in the same search results. Treat it as a candidate to inspect, not a price expectation: the listing does not establish that other Deuces—or this one, if it is no longer available—will be clean-title, well-maintained examples at that price.

How to judge the real cost, not just the asking price
Harley-Davidson’s used-motorcycle buying guide recommends setting a realistic budget that includes insurance, registration, and maintenance. With a $5,000 purchase ceiling, those costs matter: a bike priced at the limit may leave little room for immediate service or repairs. Decide how much of your total budget must remain available after purchase before comparing listings.
Compare candidates across years and inspect the details of each individual bike. Harley-Davidson advises checking that the odometer reading is consistent and inspecting the motorcycle in person. Mileage is only one piece of the picture; it does not establish maintenance quality or overall condition. Review service records and ask about the title and modifications as part of your transaction checks. Do not infer an individual motorcycle’s condition from its model name or reputation.

When a certified pre-owned bike may be an alternative
Harley-Davidson says its Certified Pre-Owned program includes a 110-point quality assurance inspection and 12 months of unlimited-mileage limited powertrain coverage for the engine and transmission. The program is available through dealers only; the cited program information does not establish that a certified motorcycle will fit a $5,000 budget.
