That change showed what the list displayed—not that those offices had closed, or that their leases had been saved. Some entries had shifted between agency labels, including FSA and NRCS.
What disappeared from DOGE’s list?
Successful Farming’s May 29, 2025 report compared the entries then visible on DOGE’s Wall of Receipts with its earlier reporting and said more than 70 USDA office listings had disappeared. The comparison was about list entries, not a verified count of offices that had closed or lease terminations that had been canceled. Successful Farming’s May 29 report also noted that agency labels changed: a Madera location, for example, appeared as an NRCS office after previously being identified as FSA. Its page later added editor notes about further label changes.
That distinction matters because USDA locations may appear under different agencies. A location moving from an FSA label to an NRCS label—or the reverse—can look like a deletion if someone tracks only one agency’s entries. The May report said Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, was the only state FSA office still listed at that point; this was a dated observation, not a current office-status determination.
Does removal mean an office is safe or closed?
No. A DOGE list entry, a planned lease termination, a completed lease action, and a decision to stop providing services are different things. An office might disappear from a list because the entry was reclassified, omitted, or otherwise changed; the list alone does not establish which explanation applies to a particular location.

Likewise, appearing on a planned-termination list does not prove that an office closed. In March 2025, the Associated Press reported on anticipated lease-termination dates from a GSA planning document and cautioned that the dates did not mean every listed location would close on schedule. The AP report described planned lease actions, not a confirmed closure for every location.
How the USDA entries changed over time

These counts are snapshots, not a continuous record of each location’s status. The DOGE Wall of Receipts page retrieved for this article displayed aggregate lease totals but no individual lease rows. GAO reported that the page’s last update was January 1, 2026; the last reported month of lease terminations was October 2025. That makes the live page insufficient to verify the present status of a specific USDA office.

What GAO found about DOGE’s lease-savings figures
In its 2026 report, GAO-26-108615, the Government Accountability Office found that DOGE’s Wall of Receipts overstated lease savings by $81.1 million. GAO also found that 108 of the 264 listed leases were already being terminated by the General Services Administration when DOGE was established. Those leases accounted for about $15.3 million of the $53.5 million in reported lease savings at that stage. These figures describe different stages and totals in GAO’s review; they should not be combined as though they were one calculation.
GAO said: “The Wall of Receipts does not describe how the savings for leases identified for termination were calculated, and DOGE did not respond to our requests for additional information.” GAO also noted that reported figures did not include additional costs such as early termination fees or relocation expenses. The reported savings therefore should not be treated as net, realized savings to the government.

How to check an individual office’s status
For a particular USDA location, compare dated records rather than relying on a single list entry. Check the location name and address, the agency label attached to it, and the date of each source. Then distinguish a proposed or listed lease termination from evidence that the lease ended and from confirmation that public services at the location stopped.

- Use the May or July 2025 reporting as historical snapshots, not current office directories.
- Check whether an entry may have moved between FSA, NRCS, or another USDA agency label.
- Look for a specific agency or GSA notice about the location before concluding that a lease was canceled or a service closed.
- Treat DOGE savings as reported estimates unless an independent source establishes actual net savings.
