If you received an Elgas Swap N Go 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinder from Bunnings Geraldton on 11 September 2024, stop using it immediately and disconnect it from any appliance. Elgas’s recall notice says to contact the supplier to arrange collection and a free replacement. The recall applies to that specified product, store and supply date—not to every Swap N Go cylinder or every Bunnings gas bottle.
Which Bunnings gas cylinder is recalled?
The recall covers an Elgas Ltd Swap N Go branded 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinder supplied from Bunnings Geraldton, Western Australia, on 11 September 2024. The ACCC Product Safety recall advertisement was published on 4 October 2024 and lists 11 September 2024 as the date sold. Read the ACCC recall notice.
- Product: Swap N Go branded 8.5kg LPG exchange cylinder
- Store: Bunnings Geraldton, WA
- Supply date: 11 September 2024
If your cylinder does not match those details, the notice does not establish that it is included. It does not announce a recall of all Swap N Go cylinders, all Bunnings gas cylinders, or cylinders supplied at other stores or on other dates.
Why was the cylinder recalled?
The cylinders may have been overfilled. The recall notice warns that gas could release from the cylinder’s safety valve. If released gas meets an ignition source, it could cause burns or property damage. Liquid LPG could also flow into an attached appliance and lead to a fire or explosion. Direct contact with escaping gas can cause cold burns.

- 【SECURE, RESTRICTED-ACCESS CYLINDER CAGE】 Built-in padlock hasp lets you lock down your propane cylinders and restrict access to authorized personnel only (padlock not included). As a lockable gas cylinder safety cage, it protects valuable LPG tanks from theft and tampering — ideal for job sites and warehouses where hazardous materials need controlled access.
- 【BUILT FOR FORKLIFT PROPANE TANKS — 8 CYLINDER CAPACITY】 This horizontal cylinder storage cabinet is engineered for 20 lb & 33 lb LPG cylinders, the standard sizes used to power forklifts. Two stacked tiers hold up to 8 tanks total, so you can organize full and empty cylinders separately without cluttering your warehouse floor.
- 【VENTILATED DESIGN FOR SAFETY & VISIBILITY】 Expanded metal sides and door provide continuous airflow, helping prevent gas buildup if a cylinder has a minor leak. The open mesh also lets you check your cylinder inventory at a glance — no need to open the cabinet to see what's inside.
- 【HEAVY-DUTY STEEL, BUILT FOR OUTDOOR USE】 Constructed with 14-gauge steel top and bottom for serious load-bearing strength, finished in a safety yellow powder coat that resists rust, corrosion, and UV damage. This heavy duty propane cage is made to hold up in outdoor storage yards through every season.
- 【EASY TO INSTALL, EASY TO USE】 Pre-punched anchor holes in the base let you secure the cabinet to concrete or pavement for added stability, and smooth-operating hinges make it easy to open one-handed, even with work gloves on. A practical industrial cage cabinet for warehouses, service yards, and job sites.
What should you do if yours matches the recall?
- Stop using the cylinder immediately. This is the specific instruction in the ACCC notice.
- Disconnect it from any appliance. Do not keep using it while you arrange the remedy.
- Contact Elgas to arrange collection and a free replacement. The 4 October 2024 notice lists 0438 698 072 and [email protected]. Because those details come from an older notice, verify they remain current with Elgas before relying on them.
The ACCC’s general recall guidance also advises consumers to stop using recalled products and contact the supplier about a repair, replacement or refund. For this cylinder, follow the specific collection and replacement directions in the Elgas recall notice. ACCC guidance on responding to recalls.
Does the recall affect other Bunnings stores or dates?
The published notice identifies one cylinder type, one store and one supply date: Swap N Go branded 8.5kg cylinders supplied from Bunnings Geraldton on 11 September 2024. It does not establish that cylinders from other Bunnings stores, or from Geraldton on other dates, are affected.
