UPSC’s NDA/NA Examination II, 2024 notification announced approximately 404 provisional vacancies across the Army, Navy, Air Force and Indian Naval Academy. Applications closed on 4 June 2024, and the written examination was held as scheduled on 1 September 2024. This is a historical notice, not an open application opportunity.

How many vacancies were announced in UPSC NDA 2 2024?

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) notified approximately 404 vacancies in Examination Notice No. 10/2024-NDA-II, dated 15 May 2024. The notice described the number as provisional and said it could change depending on training capacity at the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). The total is not a count of candidates ultimately appointed.

Entry Notified vacancies Included female vacancies
NDA Army 208 10
NDA Navy 42 6
Air Force Flying 92 2
Air Force Ground Duties (Technical) 18 2
Air Force Ground Duties (Non-Technical) 10 2
Naval Academy 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme 34 5
Total 404 27

The figures above are the approximate, provisional vacancies in UPSC’s official 2024 notification. The 27 female vacancies are the sum of the female-seat counts listed for these entries.

  • Notification: 15 May 2024.
  • Application deadline: 4 June 2024 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Written examination: 1 September 2024.
  • Planned course commencement: 2 July 2025 for the 154th NDA Course and 116th Indian Naval Academy Course.

Who was eligible under the 2024 notice?

The notice provided for unmarried male and female candidates who met its nationality conditions and were born from 2 January 2006 through 1 January 2009, inclusive. Education requirements depended on the entry: Army-wing candidates needed to have passed Class 12 under the 10+2 pattern or, under the notice’s terms, be appearing in the qualifying examination. Air Force, Navy and Naval Academy entries required the prescribed Class 12 subjects, including Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Those are only the eligibility outline. The notice also sets out detailed nationality, documentary evidence, age-proof and appearing-candidate conditions. Applicants evaluating a particular entry should consult the relevant clauses in the full UPSC notice; a Class 12 qualification alone does not establish eligibility for every service.

How did the examination and selection work?

The written examination totaled 900 marks, split between Mathematics and the General Ability Test (GAT). The notice assigned another 900 marks to the SSB Test/Interview.

Stage or paper Marks
Mathematics written paper 300
General Ability Test written paper 600
Total written examination 900
SSB Test/Interview 900

What happened after the examination?

UPSC’s recommended-candidate marks archive includes a record for NDA/NA Examination (II), 2024, uploaded on 16 April 2025. That confirms a later results-record stage, but the archive listing and original vacancy notice do not establish how many candidates ultimately joined or how many seats were filled.
