The UPSC recruitment test for 40 Medical Officer (Ayurveda) posts in the Central Establishment Department of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was scheduled for December 22, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. That date has passed. The exam details were reported by Scroll Staff on October 23, 2024, so this is an archived announcement. It does not describe an open application or an upcoming test.
What the 2024 announcement covered
Scroll Staff reported the exam details from the UPSC notice for this specific post. The figures below are as the report attributed them to the 2024 UPSC notification. They should not be read as current vacancies or a new schedule.
| Item | As reported for the 2024 recruitment |
|---|---|
| Post | Medical Officer (Ayurveda) |
| Recruiting body | Central Establishment Department, Municipal Corporation of Delhi |
| Vacancies | 40 |
| Application close | May 2, 2024 |
| Test date and time | December 22, 2024, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. |
| Test mode | Offline, pen-and-paper |
| Maximum marks | 300 |
This is a UPSC post-specific recruitment test. It is not the Combined Medical Services Examination, which UPSC runs separately for other medical posts.
Exam format and marking
- Duration: two hours.
- Question type: objective multiple choice.
- Marks: every question carries equal marks.
- Languages: English and Hindi mediums.
- Difficulty: the paper was reported to be set at the level of a degree in Ayurveda.
- Negative marking: one-third of the marks for each wrong answer is deducted.
- Unanswered questions: no penalty.
Because wrong answers cost a third of a mark, a candidate who can eliminate two options and guesses the third still has an expected gain on that question only if the guess is among the options left after elimination. Random guessing across four options has a negative expected value. Plan answers accordingly.

How the selection was weighted
Scroll Staff quoted the official notification as saying: “Recruitment Test and the interview shall carry a 75:25 weightage for those candidates shortlisted out of the recruitment test and those who qualify in the interview.” The report did not name an individual who made the statement, so it should be read as the notice’s wording, not a named official’s remark. The notice PDF linked from the report could not be opened when this was checked, so the wording is verified only as the report reproduced it. Confirm it against the UPSC notice if you need the exact text.
Where the recruitment stands now
The 2024 test date has passed, and the sources available do not show a final result or the appointment outcome for these 40 posts. Do not assume the recruitment was completed, or that candidates were appointed, unless the UPSC website confirms it.
UPSC’s homepage, checked in October 2026, showed an interview schedule for the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2026. That is a different examination with its own notice and eligibility rules, and it does not reopen the 2024 Ayurveda post.

How to check a current UPSC medical post
- Go to the official UPSC website and open the recruitment-test notices listing.
- Find the notice by post name, recruiting department and year. Do not rely on a news summary from another cycle.
- Confirm the vacancy count, application window, exam date and test pattern in the notice itself.
- Check the eligibility section for qualification and discipline requirements before applying.
- Note the pay level, allowances and service terms stated in the notice. The 2024 report did not cover pay, and salary details differ between posts and recruiting bodies.
Why the financial details matter
For a government post, the salary, allowances, probation terms and any bond or service commitment affect the real value of the job more than the exam itself. Compare these against your current income and what you would lose by leaving a job, including any notice period or pension service you would have to start over. Check the full pay terms in the official notice before you decide whether a UPSC post fits your plans.
