The application window closed on 11 February 2025 before 18:00, so applications for this cycle are no longer open. Candidates had to qualify the Civil Services Preliminary Examination to proceed to IFoS Mains.
When did UPSC IFS 2025 applications start, and when was the deadline?
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) opened the online application form on 22 January 2025. The last date to apply was 11 February 2025, and applicants had to complete the process before 18:00 that day. The dates appear in the UPSC Examination Notice No. 06/2025-IFoS and the application instructions for CSE 2025 and IFoS 2025.
The UPSC archive lists 25 May 2025 as the date for the IFoS Preliminary Examination through the Civil Services Preliminary Examination. Its archive row also displays 21 February 2025 in a “last date” field. That archive entry is distinct from the application-specific notice and form instructions, which set the form deadline at 11 February 2025 before 18:00.
Is the UPSC IFS 2025 application still open?
No. The 2025 application period has ended. For a later cycle, use the current UPSC notice and application portal rather than relying on the 2025 dates or instructions. UPSC’s Apply Online page directs applicants to upsconline.nic.in.

How did the IFoS and Civil Services Preliminary stages work?
For IFoS 2025, the Civil Services Preliminary Examination was the screening stage. Candidates seeking to continue in the Indian Forest Service examination had to appear in and qualify the CSE Preliminary Examination before proceeding to the IFoS Main Examination, which consists of a written examination and interview. This did not make the two examinations interchangeable: candidates still had to meet the eligibility rules for each examination they pursued.
UPSC said candidates seeking both IFoS and the Civil Services Examination could submit a common online application if they were eligible for both. The common form was an application route, not a waiver of either examination’s requirements.
What did applicants need before filling out the form?
UPSC’s 2025 instructions required candidates to register through One Time Registration (OTR) before completing the online application. The instructions and detailed conditions are in the official application instructions.
A contemporaneous Careers360 report summarized the basic eligibility as Indian citizenship, age 21–32 on 1 August 2025, and a bachelor’s degree in specified science subjects or in agriculture, forestry or engineering. These are only a summary; the official UPSC notice governs the full degree conditions, age relaxations, category rules and other exceptions. Careers360 also reported a Rs 100 application fee, with exemptions for SC, ST, PwBD and women candidates; applicants should consult the official notice for the applicable fee rules.
How many IFoS vacancies were announced for 2025?
Careers360 reported an intended recruitment figure of around 150 vacancies in its 2025 coverage. Treat that as a reported target, not a confirmed final vacancy count; consult the official notice and any subsequent UPSC updates for authoritative recruitment details.
