UPSC’s Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2025 application window is closed, and its exam dates have passed. The Commission’s October 2024 addendum revised the expected vacancy count to approximately 457, including 22 vacancies for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)—not 232. The notice was issued on 18 September 2024 for the 2025 examination cycle.
UPSC ESE 2025 notification: what changed
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) published the ESE 2025 examination notice on 18 September 2024. The “2025” refers to the examination cycle, not the year the notification was released. The Commission later issued an addendum after the Government decided to include Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) sub-cadres in the examination scheme.

The addendum opened a fresh application window and allowed candidates who had already applied to update their details. It also revised the expected vacancy figure and rescheduled the examinations. The Government of India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) said the schedule change followed the IRMS inclusion decision and was intended to give candidates more preparation time.

In its 18 October 2024 addendum, UPSC stated that approximately 457 vacancies were expected, including 22 PwBD vacancies. The figure was approximate and liable to change; it should not be treated as a final filled-post count. The headline’s 232 figure is not the revised estimate stated in that addendum.

The IRMS sub-cadres added to the ESE 2025 scheme were Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal and Telecommunication, and Stores. See the UPSC addendum dated 18 October 2024 for the revised vacancy estimate and application changes.

What the UPSC archives show about the 2025 cycle
UPSC’s past-paper archive lists ESE 2025 preliminary papers for Paper I, General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, and discipline-specific Paper II papers for Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication, and Mechanical Engineering. Candidates reviewing past papers can use the UPSC previous question papers archive to find the official papers by discipline.

The Commission’s results archive lists the Engineering Services (Main) Examination 2025 result as uploaded on 17 December 2025. That entry shows the cycle proceeded beyond applications, but the archive record alone does not establish final appointments or the full selection outcome. Official question papers are a direct way to review the examination’s paper format and discipline coverage. A solved-papers book matched to the candidate’s engineering discipline may be a useful optional study aid, but it is not required to apply and cannot help with the closed 2025 application window. Before buying one, check the discipline, edition and examination-cycle coverage, whether worked solutions are included, and whether the material aligns with the relevant syllabus. UPSC’s official archive establishes which 2025 papers are available; it does not assess the quality of commercial books.
