Although the original December 2023 announcement said applications would open on January 15, 2024, that schedule was superseded: the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad lists the final online application window as March 15 to May 15, 2024. Applications are not currently open.
What the UP HJS 2023 notice covered
The High Court of Judicature at Allahabad invited eligible advocates to apply for direct recruitment to the Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial Service-2023. Its revised advertisement described 83 vacancies and listed a revised pay scale of Rs. 144840–194660. This is a historical recruitment cycle, not a current job opening.
Why the January 15 date changed
The initial announcement, reported by Scroll.in on December 23, 2023, said applications would open January 15 and close February 29, 2024. The High Court’s recruitment page subsequently listed the final online application period as March 15 through May 15, 2024, and links an extension notice dated April 30, 2024. The final date to download and print a completed application was May 22, 2024. Scroll.in’s initial announcement is therefore not the schedule to use for this completed recruitment cycle; the controlling dates are on the High Court’s UP HJS 2023 recruitment page.
Vacancies and category breakdown
The revised advertisement allocated the 83 posts as follows. The candidate instructions state that the vacancy numbers were provisional and could increase or decrease.
#1 Best Overall
| Category | Posts |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 17 |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 1 |
| Other Backward Classes (OBC) | 22 |
| Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) | 8 |
| Unreserved | 35 |
| Total | 83 |
These figures and the provisional-vacancy caveat appear in the High Court’s revised 2024 advertisement and candidate instructions.
Eligibility requirements in the revised advertisement
The revised notice set out practice and case-engagement requirements for advocate candidates:
Rank #2
- Candidates had to have at least seven years of continuous practice as an advocate.
- For the three years preceding the recruitment advertisement, candidates had to have independently engaged in at least 30 cases, excluding bunch cases, if applying in the Unreserved or EWS category; the threshold was 24 such cases for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
- The advertisement said candidates already in Union or State service were not eligible.
- The notice specified that the required certificate could be issued by the relevant District and Sessions Judge, the High Court Registrar General or Registrar, or the Supreme Court Secretary General.
Consult the official revised advertisement for the complete eligibility terms, including provisions not summarized here.

The High Court’s recruitment diary later recorded examination-stage notices for UPHJS-2023, including a notice scheduling the main written examination in May 2026. The application stage is long past; anyone following the remaining process should rely on the court’s UPHJS recruitment diary and official notices for the latest dates and instructions.
