Unverferth Manufacturing announced on February 1, 2023, that it had purchased Orthman Manufacturing’s agricultural product lineup and two manufacturing locations in Lexington, Nebraska. The deal did not include every Orthman-related business: Orthman’s preceding owner and president, John McCoy, retained Orthman Conveying Systems. The companies did not disclose a purchase price.
What did Unverferth acquire?
The announcement described the purchase as Orthman’s agricultural product lineup and two manufacturing locations in Lexington, Nebraska. It did not publish a purchase price or spell out a transaction value. Unverferth’s February 1, 2023 announcement said manufacturing personnel and various support people would be offered employment under the new ownership; that wording does not establish that every employee transferred or that all positions were guaranteed.
Hennepin Partners, the transaction adviser, describes Orthman’s agricultural equipment as serving tillage, fertilizer delivery, planting, cultivation, and soil preparation applications.
Did Unverferth buy all of Orthman?
No. McCoy retained Orthman Conveying Systems. Accordingly, the transaction is best understood as the purchase of Orthman’s agricultural equipment business and related assets, not an acquisition of every business operating under an Orthman name. What does the Lexington operation make?
Orthman’s agricultural lineup covered several farming applications, including tillage, fertilizer delivery, planting, cultivation, and soil preparation. Unverferth’s current company profile says the Lexington location was purchased in 2023 and focuses on specialty tillage equipment, header transports, and DR-Planter toolbars. It also describes Lexington as the founding home of the Orthman brand.
At the time of the announcement, Unverferth said it already manufactured tillage, seed, hay- and grain-handling equipment, pull-type sprayers, fertilizer applicators, and agricultural wheel products. The acquisition therefore added an agricultural-equipment lineup and manufacturing capacity to an existing farm-equipment business.
What was said about employees and future growth?
Unverferth president Larry Unverferth said the company expected to expand the workforce, build on the brand’s presence in the farming community, and expand product offerings. McCoy expressed confidence that Unverferth would continue growing the Orthman name and take care of employees. These were statements of intent at the time of the announcement, not confirmation of specific later staffing or product-development results.

The reviewed announcement materials did not report the purchase price, Orthman revenue, employee count, or a quantified increase in production. There is not enough published information in those sources to calculate the deal’s value or financial impact.

The announcement said Unverferth had eight sales and service branch facilities across North America at that time. Its current company profile describes four manufacturing locations and eight sales and distribution branches across the United States and Canada; these are company-reported operational details, not measures of the acquisition’s financial effect.
