A separate 2026 announcement extended existing supply arrangements at Chicago O’Hare and Amsterdam Schiphol; it did not add those airports as part of the three-hub rollout.
Which three United hubs were added?
In an announcement dated October 23, 2025, Neste said it would supply neat Neste MY SAF for use at three additional United airports:
- George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia, serving the Washington, D.C., region
Neste described United as the first commercial airline to purchase SAF for flights from those three airports. That “first” is Neste’s statement, not an independently verified ranking. Neste’s October 2025 announcement explains the expansion.
How the airport agreements fit together
The announcements cover different stages of the partnership. United had already said in July 2024 that it would purchase SAF for operational use at Chicago O’Hare, where Neste deliveries began that August. United said Illinois SAF purchase incentives helped enable the purchase. The 2025 agreement then named Houston, Newark and Dulles as three additional airports. In September 2026, Neste announced extensions of supply arrangements at O’Hare and Amsterdam Schiphol.

| Airport | Announcement or arrangement | Delivery status reported | How it relates to the partnership |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chicago O’Hare (ORD), United States | United announced an operational-use purchase in July 2024; Neste later reported an extension. | Initial deliveries began in August 2024. Under the extended arrangement, deliveries began in July 2026 and were planned to continue through June 2027. | Existing SAF location with an extended supply arrangement, not one of the three airports added in 2025. |
| Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Netherlands | Neste reported an extension of the existing supply arrangement in September 2026. | Deliveries under the extended contract began in June 2026 and continued through August 2026. | Existing location with an extended arrangement, not one of the 2025 U.S. hub additions. |
| Houston (IAH), Newark (EWR) and Washington Dulles (IAD), United States | Neste announced the expansion on October 23, 2025. | The announcement identifies the planned supply and fuel type; it does not state delivery start dates. | The three additional U.S. airports at the center of the 2025 announcement. |
The 2026 contract dates and locations come from Neste’s September 2026 release. The 2024 O’Hare purchase was announced by United.
Does SAF go straight into United aircraft?
No. Neste said it would supply neat Neste MY SAF, which is blended with conventional jet fuel before use. The announcements describe SAF blended for operational use; they do not say neat, unblended SAF is put directly into aircraft. Neither release establishes the blend ratio for these arrangements.

What scale of SAF use has Neste reported for United?
Neste reported that United used more than 83,000 metric tons of SAF in 2025, equivalent to roughly 27.7 million gallons, and that its reported use was 104% higher than in the prior year. These are figures attributed to Neste, not independently audited totals in the cited announcement. Neste also said United used SAF at six of its seven domestic hubs after the three-airport additions. Its characterization of United as the largest SAF user among major U.S. airlines is based on publicly available reports, rather than an independently audited comparison. The October 2025 release gives the figures and their attribution.

The releases identify airports, supply arrangements and, for the 2025 expansion, the fuel type and blending step. They do not state contract volumes, prices, feedstock composition or the delivered emissions impact of these agreements. The releases alone therefore do not support a quantified claim about lifecycle emissions reductions or the cost of the fuel.
