British Watchmakers’ Day 2024 showed that British watch brands could draw a sizeable public audience: the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers later reported 44 brands and 1,300 collectors at the event. That is evidence of a strong gathering and interest in the watches on display—not proof that the UK watch industry as a whole has returned to growth.
What was British Watchmakers’ Day?
The Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers organised the show as an exhibition for the work of its trade members. Its January 2024 announcement scheduled the first event for Saturday 9 March at Lindley Hall, Royal Horticultural Halls, in Westminster. The Alliance said more than 40 exhibitors were confirmed ahead of the show and that exhibitors were preparing special-edition watches for guests.
In a retrospective published in 2025, the Alliance reported that 44 brands and 1,300 collectors attended. Those are the Alliance’s figures for the 2024 event; they are not an independent count. Time+Tide’s contemporary report described queues and crowds, offering a separate account of the busy show, but did not turn those observations into an industry-wide measure.
What the watches on display tell us
The event’s official highlights included watches spanning different British makers and design approaches. The named examples establish what was associated with the show, not what is currently in stock or what any watch costs today.

The examples make the event’s role clear: it put a range of British watchmaking in one place and gave exhibitors a reason to present special pieces. The available event information does not establish a complete comparison of current prices, specifications or availability. Anyone comparing these watches should verify details with the maker or an authorised seller.
Does the event mean UK watchmaking is back?
That depends on what “back” means. If it means that British watch brands could assemble a substantial public exhibition and attract collectors, the Alliance’s attendance figures and the independent description of crowds support the claim. If it means that the sector has regained its former scale or is growing in production, revenue, exports or employment, this event alone cannot establish it.

A show measures a gathering at a particular place and time. The Alliance’s figures are meaningful evidence of the event’s reach, but they do not measure how many watches British companies produce or sell, how many people they employ, or whether those measures are rising over time. British Watchmakers’ Day is best understood as a visible sign of activity and audience interest, rather than a standalone economic verdict on the industry.
