UJET’s $55 Million Series C: What the 2020 Funding Round Meant

UJET’s $55 million Series C was a June 2020 investment in cloud contact-center growth, announced amid pandemic-driven remote support needs. The company later raised a $76 million Series D in 2024.

UJET announced a $55 million Series C on June 24, 2020, led by Sapphire Ventures. The company said the round brought its disclosed funding to just over $100 million and would finance sales and marketing expansion and new products for its cloud contact-center platform. It arrived as companies moved customer-support agents out of offices during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic—but it was not UJET’s last major financing.

What UJET raised in 2020

The June 24, 2020 financing was a Series C led by Sapphire Ventures. GV, Citi Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, DCM and Resolute Ventures also participated. Sapphire Ventures president and co-founder Jai Das joined UJET’s board. UJET described its total funding after the round as just over $100 million. The company’s announcement set out plans to grow sales and marketing in the United States and internationally and to develop products and features. UJET’s funding announcement

The capital was presented as investment in growth and platform development, not as a rescue financing. The announcement did not disclose the company’s valuation, revenue, profitability, customer retention or customer concentration, so the round’s size alone does not establish those measures of business health.

What UJET sells

UJET is a cloud contact-center platform: software for managing customer-service interactions and the agents who handle them, rather than simply a business phone system. Its 2020 product description covered voice, email and messaging, CRM-connected workflows, routing and support delivered through mobile apps and other digital channels. The company also promoted smartphone-camera photo and video sharing, intended to help customers show an issue instead of describing it only by phone.

UJET called its product cloud-native and smartphone-centric, and advertised capabilities including security, reliability, analytics, artificial intelligence, channel blending and biometric authentication. Those are company descriptions, not independent findings about performance. Its 2020 contact-center buyers guide also listed voice, IVR, SMS/MMS, website chat, in-app Android and iOS channels, CRM integrations and enterprise security. The document establishes what UJET marketed, not how well each feature performed in customer deployments.

Why the timing mattered

When the round was announced, many support operations were under pressure to let agents work remotely. Cloud software could help businesses shift work away from centralized offices, but remote-agent capacity was only one part of a functioning service operation: companies still needed staffing, training, quality assurance, routing and reliable connections to customer records.

UJET said its platform had helped customers transition 35,000 agents to remote work by May 2020. It also said it was powering one cloud contact center with more than 22,000 agents. These are company-reported figures, not independently audited measures. The latter claim appeared in the company’s announcement about what it called the world’s largest cloud contact center; the superlative should be understood as UJET’s own characterization.

UJET also reported that its number of licenses had grown 400% in the preceding 12 months. That is a company-reported license metric, not a disclosed increase in revenue or customers. In the pandemic context, it indicated claimed demand for access to the platform, but does not by itself show how much of that demand persisted after emergency office closures ended.

What investors may have seen in the product

The investment case combined an immediate need for remote support with a longer-running shift from on-premises contact centers toward cloud and digital-channel systems. UJET’s pitch emphasized linking channels and customer context rather than handling every phone call, message or app interaction as a separate event. Its mobile and rich-media approach also offered a way to collect information that a voice-only interaction might not capture.

That positioning addressed a different layer of the support stack from a basic business phone service or a ticketing-focused help desk. It also put UJET in a crowded field alongside large contact-center suites, CRM vendors, cloud communications providers and specialist CCaaS companies. The available announcements do not establish that UJET was a market leader or that its approach outperformed competitors.

Funding timeline: Series B to Series D

Date Round What was disclosed
2018 Series B $25 million, led by GV, as reported in UJET’s company history and growth announcement. UJET announcement
June 24, 2020 Series C $55 million, led by Sapphire Ventures, with GV, Citi Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, DCM and Resolute Ventures participating; UJET said total disclosed funding was just over $100 million. UJET announcement
September 24, 2024 Series D $76 million, led by Sapphire Ventures, with participation from KeyCorp, IonPacific, GV, Kleiner Perkins, Citi Ventures, DCM and Ericsson Ventures. UJET said the funding would support generative-AI innovation and go-to-market expansion. UJET announcement

The later Series D means the 2020 round should be read as a stage in UJET’s financing history, not its latest raise. The 2024 announcement put greater emphasis on generative AI; those later ambitions should not be projected backward onto the product described in 2020.

What the funding does—and does not—say

For a business evaluating the financing as a signal, the round showed that Sapphire Ventures led a substantial investment and that several existing investors returned. That can indicate continued investor confidence, but it does not prove commercial success. UJET’s stated uses of funds—sales and marketing expansion, product development and platform growth—also meant the company planned to spend on scaling, rather than simply adding features. International sales bring additional complexity, including local telecom availability, data-residency requirements, recording-consent rules, language coverage and implementation support.

The available announcements do not provide enough information to assess UJET’s valuation, unit economics, profitability, recurring revenue, retention or whether pandemic-era demand was sustained. They also do not establish how much customer demand came from emergency remote-work needs versus longer-term cloud migration.

Who might consider a platform like UJET

A cloud contact-center platform is most relevant to organizations that manage substantial customer-support operations across voice and digital channels, need routing and shared customer context, and can support the integrations and implementation work involved. A small team that mainly needs basic calling or email ticketing may find a simpler phone or help-desk system more economical and easier to operate.

Before committing to any CCaaS platform, buyers should verify that advertised omnichannel support translates into shared routing, reporting and agent workflows—not just a list of separate channels. They should test CRM synchronization, screen pops, permissions, custom objects and what happens when an integration fails. Photo and video intake can aid diagnosis but creates additional privacy, storage, moderation and accessibility considerations.

  • Confirm whether phone numbers, PSTN usage, recording, transcription, SMS, payment processing and AI use are included or billed separately.
  • Check data handling, security controls, retention policies and applicable consent requirements for each region.
  • Assess workforce management, training and quality-assurance needs; adding remote-agent capacity does not solve those operational challenges.
  • For international use, verify number availability, emergency calling, local telecom rules, language coverage, data residency and implementation support.
