NTA opened applications for UGC-NET December 2024 on November 19, with an original deadline of December 10. It later extended the application deadline to December 11, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. The fee-payment deadline moved to December 12, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. This cycle is over; the dates and fees below are historical, not current application guidance.
What the December 2024 UGC-NET announcement covered
The National Testing Agency (NTA) planned the computer-based UGC-NET December 2024 examination in 85 subjects. It assessed eligibility for three purposes in Indian universities and colleges: NTA’s December 2024 opening notice described the following pathways:
- Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to a Ph.D. programme.
- Admission to a Ph.D. programme only.
The exam was scheduled for January 1–19, 2025. The information bulletin specified a three-hour (180-minute) test consisting of Paper I and Paper II, with no break between them. A candidate’s centre, date and shift were to appear on the admit card. See the NTA information bulletin for the exam details.
Application and payment deadlines
The opening notice initially set the application deadline for December 10, 2024, at 11:50 p.m. and the fee-payment deadline for December 11 at 11:50 p.m. On December 10, NTA issued an extension notice changing both deadlines and the correction window:

| Step | Original schedule | Extended schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Submit application | December 10, 2024, by 11:50 p.m. (NTA opening notice) | December 11, 2024, by 11:59 p.m. (NTA extension notice) |

The December 10 extension notice said NTA was extending the application period “enabling the aspiring candidate(s) to apply.” The extension applied to this December 2024 cycle only; it is not an open application window.
