UBL Faces Criticism Over Delayed Salary Credits on Expected Paydays

November 2025 reports described UBL customers saying salary funds were delayed on expected paydays. Here is what is known, what is unverified and what customers can check.

Reports published on November 4, 2025 said UBL customers were concerned that salary funds had not become available on expected credit days. Some customers reportedly said their employers had already transferred their pay. The available reporting does not independently verify those transfers or establish that UBL deliberately withheld funds; it describes reported delays, not a proven refusal to release money.

What customers reported about UBL salary credits

Bloom Pakistan reported that account holders said salaries were delayed on their normal credit days. Some reportedly said their employers had sent payment but the money was not yet available to use. Customers were concerned about meeting bills, rent, loan payments and household expenses, as well as possible late fees. These are accounts relayed by the outlet, not independently verified payroll or account records. Bloom Pakistan’s November 4, 2025 report

TechJuice described allegations of recurring delays over the preceding two months and connected public criticism to a LinkedIn post by Raza Mahdi, whom it identified as Head of Social Media at GEO Television Network. The outlet reported calls for UBL to address the issue, for an investigation, and for compensation for customers’ late fees. Those are reported demands, not findings that the bank caused losses or acted intentionally. TechJuice’s report

What is—and is not—established

  • The coverage describes customers reporting that salary money was late or unavailable on expected credit days.
  • The reviewed reports do not establish how many account holders were affected, how long particular delays lasted, or what caused them.
  • TechJuice said UBL had not issued an official response when its article was published. That describes the position at that time, not necessarily the bank’s current position.
  • No regulator finding or court ruling on these salary-delay allegations is identified in the reviewed coverage.

A delayed posting or lack of access to funds is not, by itself, proof of deliberate withholding. The headline term “withholding” reflects the criticism; the evidence reviewed does not establish the bank’s motive or confirm that it refused to disburse salaries.

What Mahdi said and called for

TechJuice quoted Mahdi urging UBL to take corrective action and accept responsibility for customer losses. It also quoted him saying, “People trust banks to safeguard their hard-earned money, not to manipulate the system for profit.” This is Mahdi’s criticism as reported by TechJuice, not an independently established finding about UBL’s conduct. A later UBL response concerns an unlinked issue

In a separate LinkedIn thread, Yasir Israr wrote that a salary-credit issue had been resolved and salaries credited. A UBL account replied that the issue was resolved and that a formal complaint had been initiated to investigate the cause of the delay. The available details do not establish that this was the same incident covered in November 2025, so it should not be treated as confirmation that those earlier reports were resolved. What to do if your UBL salary is delayed

If your pay has not appeared or is unavailable, first establish where the payment stands and keep a record of any consequences. Bloom Pakistan recommends checking the account statement, preserving evidence of extra charges or late fees, contacting the bank, and confirming with your employer that the payment was sent. Bloom Pakistan’s report

  1. Confirm payment with your employer. Ask whether payroll was sent, when it was sent, and whether the employer can provide a payment reference or confirmation.
  2. Check your account statement and balance. Note whether the salary entry appears and its date, and distinguish a missing deposit from a deposit that appears but is not available to use.
  3. Contact UBL customer service or a helpdesk. Explain the expected credit date and share relevant payment details. Keep a record of the complaint and any response.
  4. Document any resulting costs. Keep statements, notices and receipts showing late fees or other charges, in case you seek a review or reimbursement.
  5. If the matter remains unresolved, consider contacting the regulator. Bloom Pakistan recommends escalation if the bank does not resolve the issue, but its article is general advice rather than a step-by-step guide to a specific State Bank of Pakistan complaint procedure.

Keep this allegation separate from other UBL cases

The Pakistan Stock Exchange lists United Bank Limited as a Pakistan-incorporated commercial bank. That matter is unrelated to the salary-credit reports and does not prove the allegations discussed here. Government of Pakistan Press Information Department, July 31, 2022
