Ubisoft said on February 19, 2026, that it would cut 40 roles at Ubisoft Toronto. The company also said the Splinter Cell remake remained in development. The reporting does not establish that all 40 affected employees worked on the remake, and the status update did not provide a release date or schedule.
What Ubisoft said about the layoffs
Ubisoft announced a reduction of 40 roles at its Toronto studio, according to MobileSyrup’s February 19, 2026 report and GameSpot’s coverage. The figure refers to the studio workforce reduction; the reports do not say that all 40 affected people were assigned to the remake.
Is the Splinter Cell remake still in development?
Yes. In reporting on the cuts, Ubisoft confirmed that the remake remained in development at that time. That is a dated company-status assurance, not independent confirmation of production progress or a guarantee that the project’s schedule is unchanged.
Ubisoft Toronto is leading the remake of the original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. Ubisoft says it is rebuilding the game from the ground up with its Snowdrop engine; details appear on the official project page.
#1 Best Overall
- Incredible real movement and control - you can even shift Sam's weight when preparing him for a split jump between two walls
- Exciting new moves maximize Sam's lethal fighting skills -- spin out of the shadows and kill silently
- All-new moves and levels - fight in jungles, on rooftops, on top of(and under) a moving train
- Advanced AI makes it harder than ever to get past enemies - if you reveal yourself they'll get reinforcements and put on armor
- Weapons now have secondary functions that can be equipped on the fly - be amazed at the advantage you get from the red dot of the laser sight
What is known about the remake’s timeline?
Ubisoft announced the project in December 2021 and said development was at a very early stage at that point. Its announcement described the goal as preserving the identity of the early games, but that statement describes the project at announcement, not its current stage. The February 2026 reports confirm continued development then, but do not establish a release date, release window, production milestone, or schedule.
Ubisoft Toronto’s studio homepage lists Splinter Cell-related roles, including Producer and VFX Artist. Those listings indicate franchise work, but do not show how many people are assigned to the remake or how far development has progressed.
