Reuters reported the moves as markets reopened after a Monday bond-market holiday and traders considered the prospect of more diesel supplies from Russia.
What moved in Asian trading on October 13?
Reuters reported that the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was down 5 basis points to 5.192% during the Asian session. A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point, so a 5-basis-point move equals 0.05 percentage point. Brent crude futures fell 1.4% to $105.20 per barrel in the same report. These were session observations, not confirmed closing levels. Reuters

Why were yields and energy prices both lower?
Reuters said traders were weighing the possibility of increased diesel supplies from Russia, a supply prospect that can put downward pressure on energy prices. At the same time, attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure were continuing, leaving uncertainty around future supply. That combination helps explain the energy-market context but does not establish a forecast that prices will keep falling. Reuters

It attributed this comment to MUFG analysts: “There are some signs that positive global economic surprises are coming off the boil, while US bond yields are stabilising.” This is analyst commentary, not a finding by the Treasury or Federal Reserve. Does lower oil explain the Treasury yield decline?
Not by itself, based on the reported information. The yield and Brent futures moved lower in the same session, but Reuters did not isolate oil as the cause of the Treasury move or quantify the contribution of energy prices, policy expectations, or other forces. The holiday-related reopening and broader market conditions are part of the reported backdrop. Co-movement is not proof of a single cause.

The Treasury’s daily par yield curve is a separate measure from Reuters’ Asian-session market quote. The Treasury says its curve uses interpolated yields derived from indicative bid-side quotations gathered at or near 3:30 p.m. each trading day. In the October table available on the Treasury page, the latest displayed observation was October 8: the 10-year par yield was 5.27%, compared with 5.31% on October 5. Those official daily figures should not be read as the October 13 Asian-session yield. Treasury yield-curve methodology Treasury daily rates
The available figures therefore answer different questions: Reuters captured a live market level during Asian trading on October 13, while the Treasury series provided a daily par-curve observation through October 8. A U.S. closing quote for October 13 is not established by these figures.
