U.S. Bank’s business checking options differ most in how many transactions they include, how they treat cash deposits and whether you can meet a monthly-fee waiver. Business Essentials has no monthly maintenance fee and unlimited digital transactions, while Silver, Gold and Platinum include 125, 350 and 550 transactions per statement cycle, respectively. The right fit depends on your activity, available balances and—if you take customer payments—the value and cost of Business Essentials’ payment tools.

How the accounts differ
Business Essentials: digital checking plus payment acceptance
Business Essentials combines a business checking account with a point-of-sale system and payment processing. It advertises no monthly maintenance fee, unlimited digital transactions and 25 free teller and paper transactions per statement cycle. Each teller or paper transaction above that allowance costs $0.50. This structure may suit a business that handles most banking digitally and wants payment acceptance tools in the same package.

#1 Best Overall
U.S. Bank lists starting processing fees of 2.60% plus $0.10 for in-person swipe, tap or insert payments; 3.50% plus $0.15 for manually entered transactions; and 2.90% plus $0.30 for online payments. These are starting rates, not a guarantee of the price for every merchant. Check the current Business Essentials product terms and applicable merchant agreement for the rate and terms that apply to your business.
Checking and payment acceptance are separately approved: U.S. Bank states that approval for the checking account does not guarantee approval for payment acceptance. See its Business Essentials Suite information.

Silver: a no-monthly-fee package with a defined allowance
Silver has no monthly maintenance fee and includes 125 transactions per statement cycle. Each additional transaction costs $0.50. It is a straightforward comparison point for businesses whose activity fits within that allowance and that do not need Business Essentials’ payment package.
Gold: more transactions, with a fee to manage
Gold includes 350 transactions per statement cycle, with a $0.45 charge for each additional transaction. Its standard monthly maintenance fee is $20, but U.S. Bank lists several ways to waive it. For the non-interest-bearing option, the listed conditions include using U.S. Bank Payment Solutions, maintaining a $10,000 average collected account balance, maintaining $20,000 in combined average collected business deposit balances, or maintaining $50,000 in combined average collected business deposits and outstanding business credit balances. The interest-bearing option has different balance thresholds. Confirm the applicable terms on U.S. Bank’s Gold Business Checking page.

Platinum includes 550 transactions per statement cycle, with a $0.40 charge for each additional transaction. Its standard monthly maintenance fee is $30. The listed waiver conditions include using U.S. Bank Payment Solutions, maintaining a $25,000 average collected account balance, or maintaining $75,000 in combined average collected business deposit balances and outstanding business credit balances. Check the current conditions on U.S. Bank’s Platinum Business Checking page.
Cash deposit units matter if your business handles cash
Gold includes 125 free cash deposit units per statement cycle, and Platinum includes 250. These units are calculated using the cash deposited and the bank’s rounding rules; they are not simply a count of how many deposits you make. U.S. Bank’s pricing disclosure explains the allowance. Estimate your cash activity using that method before comparing packages, especially if you regularly deposit large amounts.

How to choose based on your business activity
U.S. Bank identifies transaction and deposit volume as key factors in choosing a business checking account. A useful estimate should cover a typical statement cycle, not an unusually quiet or busy month. Compare your expected costs and waiver eligibility rather than choosing by account name alone.
- Count teller and paper transactions. Estimate the checks, teller-assisted transactions and other activity that counts toward the account’s allowance. For Business Essentials, separate those from digital transactions, which are advertised as unlimited.
- Estimate total transactions. Compare your activity with Silver’s 125, Gold’s 350 and Platinum’s 550 included transactions per statement cycle. If you exceed an allowance, include the applicable per-transaction charge in your comparison.
- Calculate cash deposit units. If you deposit cash, use U.S. Bank’s unit calculation rather than treating each deposit as one unit. Compare your estimate with Gold’s 125 and Platinum’s 250 free units per statement cycle.
- Check waiver eligibility using available balances. Use average collected balances—not just a target you might reach briefly—and verify which Gold or Platinum waiver condition applies to your account type.
- Price payment acceptance separately. If you sell directly to customers, consider whether Business Essentials’ point-of-sale and processing package is useful, then compare the applicable processing charges and confirm eligibility.

Pros and tradeoffs
- Potential advantages: Business Essentials advertises no monthly maintenance fee, unlimited digital transactions and integrated payment acceptance. Gold and Platinum provide larger transaction allowances than Silver. Platinum has the largest cash deposit unit allowance among these options.
- Tradeoffs: Gold and Platinum have monthly fees unless you meet a waiver condition. Transaction limits apply per statement cycle, and overage charges vary by account. Business Essentials’ free teller and paper allowance is separate from its unlimited digital transactions, and payment acceptance is separately approved and carries processing fees.
Is there a U.S. Bank business checking bonus?
U.S. Bank’s offer described for qualifying accounts opened from September 28, 2026 through January 13, 2027 listed $400 for Business Essentials after $5,000 in new-money deposits and a required maintained daily balance, or $1,200 for Platinum after $25,000. Both offers also required six qualifying transactions. The required balance had to be maintained through the 60th day, and transactions had to post within 60 days; funds had to come from outside U.S. Bank and its affiliates. Businesses with an existing U.S. Bank business checking account, or one closed within the prior 12 months, were excluded, and other terms applied. The bank says offers may be withdrawn, so verify the live terms and eligibility before opening. See the U.S. Bank business checking offer terms.
