Turn 10 Studios was hit by substantial reported layoffs in July 2025, but Microsoft did not publish a studio-specific final headcount. Turn 10 later said it would keep supporting the existing Forza Motorsport; Xbox has not announced a new installment in the sources reviewed. In September 2026, Xbox said Turn 10 and Playground Games would come together as one studio focused on Forza and Fable.
How many Turn 10 employees were laid off?
The July 2025 numbers are reported figures, not an official Microsoft breakdown. The Verge reported on July 2, 2025 that more than 70 people would be let go at Turn 10, citing a source familiar with the situation. Later coverage described the impact as as much as roughly half the studio’s staff. Neither figure establishes the precise final reduction, and Xbox did not publish a Turn 10-specific total in the cited statements.

Those numbers should not be confused with wider Xbox restructuring totals. In a July 6, 2026 memo, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma described approximately 3,200 role reductions across FY27, including approximately 1,600 role eliminations at that time. Those were division-wide figures, not Turn 10 counts. A later Xbox memo identified 268 roles being eliminated across Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and Xbox management and central functions, without assigning a number to Turn 10.
Is Forza Motorsport cancelled?
The sources reviewed do not establish that Forza Motorsport was formally cancelled. They also do not confirm a new game or release schedule. In August 2025, Turn 10 said it and Playground Games would continue supporting Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon 5. Its plan included restoring previously time-limited content over time; Windows Central reported that Featured Tours would return roughly monthly.

In October 2025, Phil Spencer said the Forza Motorsport intellectual property remained in Xbox’s plans, while Turn 10 shifted focus toward games releasing sooner. Pure Xbox reported this through a rough online translation of a Japanese interview, so the comments should be read with that translation caveat. They did not announce a next game or timetable.
What happened to Turn 10 Studios?
On September 22, 2026, Xbox said Turn 10 and Playground Games would formally move their work into one studio focused on Forza and Fable. Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty said: “Playground and Turn 10 will come together as one studio focused on the Forza and Fable franchises.” This is an organizational consolidation; the memo did not say Turn 10 had closed, provide a Turn 10-specific layoff count, or confirm a new Forza Motorsport title.
