The Associated Press reported that DJT, TMTG’s Nasdaq-listed stock, rose 41.9% that day. That one-session gain is what the headline refers to. The merger itself has not closed. The most recent SEC-filed update covered here, dated September 30, 2026, still describes the deal as proposed.
What was announced on December 18, 2025
The companies described the transaction as valued at more than $6 billion. Shareholders of each company would own approximately half of the combined company on a fully diluted basis. TMTG would serve as the holding company for Truth Social and TAE’s businesses after closing.
The deal is therefore a combination of a social-media parent with a fusion company. Truth Social itself is not merging with a reactor developer. The app remains part of TMTG, which is the entity whose shares trade as DJT.
Why the stock moved, and what the 41.9% figure does not show
The 41.9% increase is a single-session measurement for December 18, 2025, as reported by the Associated Press. It establishes timing, not cause. The reporting does not isolate how much of the move reflected the fusion plan rather than other trading activity, and it says nothing about where the shares traded afterward.

When reading a headline like this, keep three limits in view:
- The percentage applies only to the announcement day. It is not a multi-month or year-to-date return.
- A one-day gain does not show what a buyer at the open would have earned by holding through later sessions.
- No current DJT price is reported in this article. For October 8, 2026, check a live quote on Nasdaq under the ticker DJT.
Deal terms and what they mean for existing shareholders

For existing TMTG holders, the practical arithmetic is dilution. If the announced split holds, TMTG shareholders as a group would own about half of the enlarged company. Each existing share would then represent a smaller slice of a larger business, and the trade is worth it only if the combined company’s value grows enough to offset that. The announcement did not establish that outcome.

TAE’s businesses beyond fusion
TAE is not only a fusion developer. In its September 2026 announcement, the company described TAE Power Solutions as focused on power management, with its PowerFabric offering addressing dynamic AI-compute loads. TAE Life Sciences works on cancer-treatment technology related to boron neutron capture therapy. These are company descriptions. They are not independent evidence of commercial adoption or clinical results.
Fusion plans: planned, not established
The fusion claims describe what the companies intend to build. None of it is an operating asset yet.

CEO Devin Nunes said in the December 18, 2025 announcement that “Fusion power will be the most dramatic energy breakthrough since the onset of commercial nuclear energy in the 1950s—an innovation that will lower energy prices, boost supply, ensure America’s A.I.-supremacy, revive our manufacturing base and bolster national defense.” That is a promotional statement from the company’s chief executive, not an established outcome.

Risks that remain open
The September 30, 2026 announcement lists specific risks attached to the forward-looking claims:
- Closing: the deal may be delayed or may not close at all.
- Benefits: the anticipated benefits may not materialize.
- Capital: the announcement says significant capital is required to develop fusion.
- Technology: TAE may not develop or commercialize a viable reactor on its expected timeline.
A checklist before acting on this headline

- Confirm the current deal status in TMTG’s and TAE’s filings on SEC EDGAR. Look for whether the Form S-4 has been declared effective and whether a shareholder vote has been scheduled.
- Look for a closing announcement. Until one appears, treat plant capacities, site timing and construction dates as plans.
- Pull a live DJT quote rather than relying on the December 18, 2025 move.
- Evaluate any position against the combined company’s expected profile after closing, including the roughly 50% ownership split, not against a one-day percentage.
The headline is accurate on its core facts: a 41.9% one-day gain on the announcement date, tied to a proposed merger. It is not accurate to describe the merger as completed or the fusion plant as operating.
