Donald Trump’s second inauguration took place on January 20, 2025, in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony was the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies and included the oaths of office for Trump and Vice President JD Vance, musical performances and Trump’s inaugural address.
Where and when was Trump’s inauguration?
The ceremony took place on Monday, January 20, 2025, inside the Capitol Rotunda. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) had earlier described plans for a ceremony on the Capitol’s West Front, but the event record documents the completed ceremony in the Rotunda. The official sources cited here do not establish why the venue changed.
The JCCIC describes the inauguration as part of the recurring four-year transfer of presidential leadership and says it has planned Capitol inaugural ceremonies since 1901. Read about the JCCIC and its role.
What was on the inauguration schedule?
The printed program gives 11:30 a.m. as the program time and lists the events in sequence; it does not provide a complete minute-by-minute timetable.

Who attended Trump’s inauguration?
The Congressional Record documents a range of officials and family members entering the Rotunda. Notable attendees included former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama; former vice presidents Dan Quayle and Mike Pence; outgoing President Joe Biden and outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris; members of Congress; and Supreme Court justices. The record also names Melania Trump, Usha Vance and Trump family members Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Tiffany Trump and Barron Trump. These are examples from the record, not a complete public guest list. See the Congressional Record’s account of the ceremony.
The JCCIC says Trump delivered an in-person speech to 1,300 seated guests. That figure refers to the seated audience, not to public-access tickets.

How did public access and tickets work?
For the January 2025 event, Members of Congress received ticket allocations to distribute to constituents. The JCCIC said more than 220,000 color-coded tickets were printed and that everyone attending on the Capitol Grounds, including children, needed a ticket. The committee’s FAQ also described non-ticketed standing areas on the National Mall west of 4th Street, alongside ticketed viewing areas. These were event-specific arrangements for 2025, not current ticket instructions.
The JCCIC’s ticket announcement was published January 13, 2025; its inauguration FAQ explains the access areas. The committee chair, Senator Amy Klobuchar, said in a December 23, 2024 preparations release: “In less than one month, we will gather at the Capitol to once again carry forward the Constitution’s commitment to a peaceful transfer of power.”
