Trump’s August 2026 periodic transaction report lists an AMD share sale valued at $1,000,001–$5,000,000 and a Meta Platforms share purchase valued at $5,000,001–$25,000,000, both dated August 21. The filing records separate transactions; it does not establish that AMD proceeds funded the Meta purchase or explain why either trade occurred.
What Trump’s August filing records
The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) received Trump’s 18-page Periodic Transaction Report, OGE Form 278-T, on September 25, 2026. Its transaction entries are dated August 21, 2026. The transaction date and the date the agency received the filing are distinct. The OGE filing gives these value ranges:

| Company | Reported transaction | Transaction date | Disclosed value range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) | Sale | August 21, 2026 | $1,000,001–$5,000,000 |
| Meta Platforms Inc. | Purchase | August 21, 2026 | $5,000,001–$25,000,000 |
These are disclosure bands, not exact trade totals. The Meta entry means the purchase was reported in a range whose upper end is $25 million; it does not show that the account bought exactly $25 million in shares.

The entries appear among a much larger batch of reported activity. Quartz, citing CNBC’s analysis, reported that the August disclosure contained 517 transactions. The report does not explain the reasoning behind the AMD sale or Meta purchase, nor does it say the transactions were connected. Quartz’s account also reports the White House’s position that independent advisers manage the accounts without Trump’s input, using automated model portfolios benchmarked to indexes such as the Schwab 1000. That is the administration’s explanation; the available filing and reporting do not independently establish who selected these particular trades.

- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
Accordingly, the disclosure supports saying that Trump’s accounts reported the transactions. It does not support saying Trump personally chose them, that AMD proceeds paid for Meta shares, or that the trades reveal a forecast for either company’s stock.
Was Meta one of the cheapest Magnificent Seven stocks?
“Cheapest” depends on the valuation measure and the date of the comparison. Price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios compare a company’s share price with earnings, but trailing and forward P/E use different earnings figures: trailing P/E uses reported past earnings, while forward P/E uses forecast earnings. Forecasts can change, and a lower P/E by itself does not prove a stock is undervalued or a good investment.

In a snapshot dated October 8, 2026, Bear Savings ranked Meta lowest among the Magnificent Seven by forward P/E, at 22.08. In that same comparison, Alphabet had the lowest trailing P/E, at 17.24. Those are different measures, so they do not identify one stock as the cheapest by every definition. Bear Savings’ Magnificent Seven comparison provides that dated ranking.

A separate ChartRow comparison, with data through October 12, 2026, listed a P/E of 27.8 for Meta and 17.7 for Alphabet. Those figures are a separate snapshot and should not be blended with Bear Savings’ October 8 forward-P/E ranking without matching the metric definitions. ChartRow’s comparison supplies the later figures. Neither snapshot makes “one of the cheapest” a timeless description: the answer depends on the measure, data source, and as-of date.

How to read the headline without overreading it
- “Sold AMD” refers to a disclosed sale in the $1,000,001–$5,000,000 band, not a precise amount.
- “Bought up to $25 million in Meta” describes the top of the filing’s $5,000,001–$25,000,000 band, not an exact $25 million purchase.
- “Cheapest” is defensible here only with a specified comparison: Meta ranked lowest by forward P/E in Bear Savings’ October 8, 2026 snapshot; Alphabet ranked lowest by trailing P/E there.
- Trade motive or strategy is not established by the disclosure. The filing does not show that the AMD and Meta entries were a deliberate rotation or connected funding transactions.
