President Donald Trump said MAGA Inc. would pay for future “Patriotic Ads” after bipartisan criticism of television spots paid for with federal funds. The White House confirmed the change going forward, but reporting does not establish how the PAC payments will be documented or whether taxpayers will be reimbursed for ads that already aired.
Who will pay for the ads now?
On October 5, 2026, Trump wrote that he had decided to do the ads and “pay for them myself, and with money I raised for MAGA, Inc.” He also described them as “positive promotion for our Great U.S.A.” The White House said MAGA Inc. would pay for ads going forward, according to The Associated Press.
That announcement addresses future advertising, not the costs already incurred. The cited reporting does not explain how the PAC will demonstrate that political funds paid for future spots.
What were the ads, and what did they say?
The spots began airing in late September. Reporting by The Guardian described an early ad that used Trump clips about defeating communism; a later spot with Mount Rushmore imagery and material from a Fourth of July weekend speech; and another ad described as virtually identical to a 2024 Trump campaign ad. The spots ended with the disclaimer “Paid for by the U.S. Government.”

How much federal money did the ads cost?
Published figures are estimates from different reports and measurement points, not a reconciled final total. They should not be added together or treated as interchangeable:

Will taxpayers be reimbursed for ads already aired?
Trump’s announcement did not say whether the government would be repaid for the ads already broadcast. The White House also did not answer AP’s questions about how Trump or the PAC would show that political funds covered future advertising. The available reporting therefore leaves both repayment of past costs and documentation of future PAC payments unresolved.

Legal experts cited by AP and The Guardian said the ads could raise questions under federal restrictions on using appropriated funds for publicity or propaganda and restrictions on partisan political activity by government employees. Those are reported legal concerns—not a court ruling or an official finding that the ads violated federal law. The cited reports do not establish that an authority has reached a legal conclusion.
