The White House said Saudi Arabia made a $600 billion investment commitment, a package of planned deals and agreements rather than money already transferred or invested.
The visit was primarily framed around economic partnership. The White House described the package as including a nearly $142 billion defense-sales agreement, along with planned investments and commercial agreements.
Who joined Trump in Saudi Arabia?
Musk and Altman were among the best-known attendees at the May 13 events. The presidential travel pool reported seeing both men at a lunch with business leaders in Riyadh. Musk also attended a state dinner later that day.
Musk was serving as a senior adviser to Trump while also leading Tesla, SpaceX and other companies. Altman attended as OpenAI’s CEO, not as a government official. Neither man should be described as formally joining Trump’s presidential delegation in the same capacity as an administration employee.

“Other billionaires” is a shorthand used in some coverage, but it is not precise. The group was more accurately described as major U.S. executives, investors and technology leaders. Attendance varied by event, so presence at the Riyadh lunch does not necessarily mean someone attended every meeting or dinner. The presidential travel-pool reports document the lunch and dinner attendees.
What was announced during the visit?
The central event was the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum, held in Riyadh on May 13. The White House said the Saudi commitment and related agreements included the following items:

The White House also listed agreements involving aerospace, mining, transportation, space, sports, infrastructure and energy. Some announcements were agreements in principle or memorandums of understanding, not completed transactions.

Why was artificial intelligence central to the trip?
Artificial intelligence was one of the most prominent business themes in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia is seeking to develop a major technology sector and has used its sovereign wealth fund to support new companies and infrastructure. The kingdom launched Humain, an AI company intended to build capabilities in computing, data and related services.
Reuters reported that Nvidia planned to supply Humain with hundreds of thousands of AI chips, beginning with 18,000 Blackwell chips. Reuters also reported planned partnerships involving Amazon Web Services, AMD, Cisco, Qualcomm and other companies. These plans are summarized in Reuters’ fact box on deals during Trump’s Gulf visit.
For investors and consumers, the important distinction is between a signed, funded project and a proposed partnership. A memorandum of understanding may establish an intention to cooperate without guaranteeing a final purchase, construction schedule or revenue forecast. The financial impact will depend on later contracts, financing, regulatory approvals, delivery dates and actual demand.
What could the agreements mean for ordinary Americans?
The announcements could affect the U.S. economy through several channels, although the effect will not be immediate or evenly distributed.

- Air travel and aerospace: Boeing aircraft orders can support the manufacturer and its supply chain. The timing of deliveries, financing arrangements and cancellations will determine the practical value of the order.
- Technology investment: New AI partnerships could increase demand for semiconductors, cloud computing and data-center services. They could also intensify debates over energy use, data governance and the concentration of technology investment.
- Markets and portfolios: The announcements may influence shares of defense, semiconductor, cloud-computing, energy and aerospace companies. Investors should avoid treating a headline commitment as a guaranteed increase in a company’s earnings.
What does the $600 billion figure actually represent?
The White House presented the figure as a commitment covering multiple transactions rather than a single investment. It combines commercial deals, planned investments, defense sales and purchases of U.S. goods and services.
That distinction matters when evaluating economic headlines. A commitment can be announced before money changes hands. Some projects may be completed over years; others may be revised, delayed or never fully executed. The White House figure combines Saudi investment in the United States with purchases from U.S. companies, which are economically related but not identical.
A useful checklist for assessing similar announcements is:
- Is the amount a signed contract, a preliminary agreement or an aspiration?

The diplomatic side of Trump’s Saudi visit
Although business deals dominated the public messaging, the visit also covered regional security and foreign policy. Trump discussed Iran, Syria and Gaza and raised the possibility of Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, the agreements that normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states. Saudi Arabia was the first stop on a four-day Gulf tour. Trump arrived in Riyadh on May 13 and left Saudi Arabia on May 14 for Qatar, followed by the United Arab Emirates. The Riyadh meetings served both as an investment forum and as the opening stage of a broader effort to strengthen U.S. commercial and diplomatic ties in the Gulf, according to the presidential travel-pool reports.
What to watch after the announcement
The next meaningful indicators will be implementation rather than additional headline numbers. Investors and the public can watch for finalized contracts, company filings, construction announcements, export approvals, financing details and delivery schedules.
For personal investors, the safest approach is to treat the Riyadh announcements as potential catalysts—not guaranteed returns. A company’s stock price can rise on a major partnership and later fall if the project is delayed, margins are weak or expected orders do not materialize. Did Elon Musk and Sam Altman officially join Trump’s delegation?
They attended Saudi events with Trump and Saudi officials, including a business-leader lunch. Musk was also a senior Trump adviser at the time, while Altman attended as OpenAI’s CEO. They were not both government officials formally serving in the presidential delegation.
