TradeStation does not offer universal zero-fee trading. Its current U.S. pricing generally gives stocks and ETFs a $0 commission, while options, futures, routing, clearing, exchange, regulatory, account and service charges can still apply.
TradeStation has also advertised a temporary promotion for eligible new accounts. However, the stated funding deadline was July 31, 2026. Since the current date is August 8, 2026, that deadline has passed unless TradeStation has extended or replaced the offer. Check the official promotion terms before relying on it.
What “zero fee” meant in TradeStation’s promotion
The promotion was not a permanent switch that removed every charge from an account. It offered reduced or zero commissions for certain products and customers, while separate fees could remain.
For an eligible new account, the advertised promotional rates were:
#1 Best Overall

| Product | Promotional commission |
|---|---|
| Single-leg options | $0 per contract, per side |
| Multi-leg options | $0 per contract, per side |
| Regular futures | $0.50 per contract, per side |
| Micro futures | $0.25 per contract, per side |
| Stocks and ETFs | $0 commission, subject to exceptions and additional charges |
The offer was limited to new U.S. retail, non-IRA TradeStation Securities accounts funded with at least $5,000 in qualifying net-new external assets. The promotional terms excluded or restricted certain account types, order routes, platforms and securities.
TradeStation’s materials also contain a timing inconsistency. One page describes the offer as valid for 60 days from funding, while the formal terms describe pricing for the calendar month in which the account was funded plus the following two calendar months. Do not assume a generic 60-day period; confirm the applicable terms with TradeStation.
Current stock and ETF pricing
For ordinary eligible U.S. stocks and ETFs, TradeStation’s standard schedule lists a $0 commission. That does not guarantee a $0 total transaction cost.
Potential charges include:
- Sub-dollar and OTC equities: $0.005 per share, with a $1 minimum and $50 maximum per executed order, subject to a cap of 5% of the order’s notional value.
- Direct routing: published direct-routing charges can range from $0.0032 to $0.0048 per share depending on the monthly volume tier. Promotional disclosures also identify a $0.005-per-share direct-routing charge.
- Clearing: $0 to $0.003 per share depending on the applicable volume tier.
- Regulatory, exchange and other service fees: these may be added where applicable.
For example, buying a conventional exchange-listed ETF through the ordinary eligible route may show a $0 commission. Buying an OTC security, a stock below $1, or using a direct route can produce a charge even if the general stock headline says “commission-free.”

Outside an applicable promotion, standard U.S. options commissions depend on monthly contract volume and whether the trade is single-leg or multi-leg:
| Monthly contracts | Single-leg | Multi-leg |
|---|---|---|
| 0–500 | $0.80 per contract per side | $0.40 per contract per side |
| 501–1,000 | $0.60 | $0.30 |
| 1,001–10,000 | $0.50 | $0.25 |
| More than 10,000 | $0 | $0 |
Even when the commission is $0, other charges can apply. TradeStation lists, among others:
Rank #2
- Ergonomic Backrest – High-quality breathable mesh provides airflow while integrated lumbar support promotes healthy posture and lasting all-day comfort.
- Supportive Seat – Resilient sponge cushioning with fabric finish supports the lower half of the body for improved comfort in extended sessions.
- Durable & Reliable – Sturdy metal base and gas lift deliver strong support up to 250 lbs, while an internal wood structure helps maintain shape and stability for long-lasting performance.
- Customizable Features – Easily adjust height, tilt, and 360-degree swivel to match your needs, giving you full control over your ideal seating position.
- Index-option fees of $0.60 to $1.00 per contract per side
- $1 per contract per side for direct routing
- $14.95 per position for assignment or exercise
- $1.50 per contract for early assignment or early exercise, with a $5.95 minimum
- A $75 liquidation fee
- Professional Option Execution Fees of $0.20 per contract, plus a $0.50 index fee per contract where applicable
That is why “$0 options” should be read as “$0 stated commission for an eligible order,” not “no possible cost.”
Futures pricing has separate rates
The promotional futures rates were not permanent universal prices. TradeStation’s standard schedule currently lists the following rates for accounts trading 0–500 contracts per month:
Recommended Free Tools
| Futures type | Standard commission for 0–500 monthly contracts |
|---|---|
| Regular futures | $1.75 per contract per side |
| Micro futures | $0.50 per contract per side |
Higher monthly volume can reduce the commission. Accounts trading more than 10,000 contracts per month may qualify for a $0 commission, but exchange and regulatory charges still apply.
There is also an important platform exception. Futures contracts traded through FuturesPlus incur a separate $1.75-per-contract, per-side fee. Standard exchange, regulatory and overnight fees may also apply. A trader therefore cannot assume that the promotional TradeStation futures rate applies to an order sent through FuturesPlus.
Who could qualify for the promotion?
The advertised offer was restricted to accounts meeting all relevant conditions, including:
- The account had to be new.
- The customer had to be a U.S. domestic retail customer.
- The account had to be a non-IRA TradeStation Securities account.
- At least $5,000 of qualifying net-new external assets had to be deposited.
- The funding deadline was July 31, 2026, according to the published terms.
Institutional accounts, IRAs and other tax-qualified accounts could be excluded. Certain trades were also excluded, including some sub-dollar, non-NMS, OTC, third-party, delegated, externally executed, direct-routed and non-TradeStation-application trades.

How to check the cost before placing a trade
There is no documented “unlock zero fees” command, button or universal account setting. TradeStation applies pricing through the account, product, route and applicable commission schedule.
In Web Trading, check an order as follows:
- Open Web Trading.
- Click Trade at the top of the window to open the Trade Bar.
- Select the relevant asset-class tab or order type.
- Enter the symbol and quantity.
- Review the Routing, Duration and Account number fields.
- Click Buy or Sell.
- Read the Confirm Order dialog.
- Check Estimated Commission before clicking Send.
The routing choice matters. The default is generally Intelligent, which selects a route automatically. Selecting a specific direct route can create additional charges. The confirmation figure is an estimate based on the published schedule, so the final amount can differ if the order executes differently or under changing market conditions.
To review account information, open the Balances tab, choose the relevant category from the Asset Categories menu and click Update. This screen is for account information, not fee activation, and its displayed data is not guaranteed to be real time.

Why a supposedly free trade can still show a charge
| What happened | Possible explanation |
|---|---|
| Stock or ETF trade generated a fee | The security was OTC, below $1, non-NMS, direct-routed, externally executed, or subject to clearing or regulatory charges. |
| Options trade generated a fee | It involved an index option, direct routing, assignment, exercise, early assignment or early exercise, or the promotional period had ended. |
| Futures cost more than expected | The account was outside the promotion, the contract used FuturesPlus, or exchange, regulatory, clearing or overnight charges applied. |
| Final charge differed from confirmation | The confirmation showed an estimate, and the order’s execution or route produced a different final charge. |
TradeStation also lists a $10 monthly inactivity fee, marked free when the account meets the stated minimum-activity requirement. Confirm the current account-fee schedule rather than assuming that a $0 trading commission eliminates account charges.
Market data is a separate cost
Commission-free execution does not make every platform feature or market-data package free. TradeStation says certain basic market data is available at no charge to non-professional subscribers, while additional markets and services can carry fees. Review the market-data pricing before subscribing to real-time or premium data.

What the headline gets wrong
The phrase “TradeStation unlocks zero fee trading” is too broad if it suggests that every TradeStation trade is free. The more accurate description is:
U.S. stocks and ETFs generally carry a $0 commission. Options and futures may receive promotional or volume-based commission discounts, but routing, exchange, regulatory, clearing, contract, account and other fees can still apply.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTradeStation’s 2019 announcement discussed commission-free exchange-listed stocks, options and ETFs through its web and mobile platforms. That announcement does not describe the current, more detailed schedule, which now distinguishes products, volume tiers, routes, platforms and account conditions.
Before opening an account or placing a trade, compare the product-specific schedule and inspect the confirmation dialog. For a promotion, verify the current deadline and eligibility directly with TradeStation. That is the only reliable way to determine whether a particular order qualifies for a reduced commission.

- High-Resilience Molded Foam Seat – Won’t Flatten After 1 Year – Instead of budget foam that hardens and sags within months, the seat is built with high-density, high-resilience molded foam that bounces back day after day. It maintains its shape and cushioning far longer, preventing the “bottoming out” discomfort common at this price point
- Adjustable Lumbar, Not a Fixed Afterthought – Unlike flimsy plastic supports that crack or lose tension, this chair features a durable lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth to match your spine’s natural curve. Genuinely relieves lower back pressure during long sitting sessions
- Breathable Mesh Backrest – No Peeling, No Heat Buildup – Say goodbye to flaking faux leather. The high-tension mesh back promotes continuous airflow, keeping you cool in warm environments and eliminating the mess of peeling upholstery. Mesh holds up significantly better over time and looks professional years later
- Anti-Sink BIFMA Certified Gas Cylinder – A common failure in budget chairs: the pneumatic cylinder loses pressure and slowly sinks during use. Our Class 3 BIFMA-certified gas lift is built to hold its height reliably, so your chair stays exactly where you set it—year after year. No more sudden drops or mid-work adjustments
- Heavy-Duty Metal Core Base (330 lbs Capacity) – Thin plastic bases can crack under stress, especially near the cylinder hub. We use a reinforced nylon base with a metal core, providing the durability and peace of mind you need. Smooth-rolling, 360° silent casters glide across hardwood, tile, or carpet without scratching or catching
Is TradeStation’s zero-commission promotion still available?
The published promotion required qualifying funding by July 31, 2026. As of August 8, 2026, that deadline has passed unless TradeStation has extended or replaced the offer. Confirm the current terms directly with TradeStation.
Are TradeStation options free?
Not universally. Standard options commissions range from $0.25 to $0.80 per contract per side for many accounts, depending on strategy and monthly volume. Some eligible promotional trades had a $0 commission, but index, routing, assignment, exercise and other fees could still apply.
How can I see the estimated commission before trading?
In Web Trading, open Trade, enter the order in the Trade Bar, review Routing and Account number, click Buy or Sell, and inspect Estimated Commission in the Confirm Order dialog before selecting Send.
Are TradeStation futures commissions always $0.50 per contract?
No. The $0.50 regular-futures rate was promotional. The standard rate for accounts trading 0–500 regular futures contracts per month is listed as $1.75 per contract per side; micro futures are listed at $0.50 before additional fees. FuturesPlus also has a separate $1.75-per-contract, per-side fee.

Bottom line: TradeStation offers commission-free pricing in specific situations, not universal zero-fee trading. Ordinary eligible stocks and ETFs generally have a $0 commission, while options, futures, special securities, direct routes, FuturesPlus orders and account services can carry additional costs. The advertised new-account promotion had a July 31, 2026 funding deadline, so verify any replacement offer before funding an account.
