Trader Joe’s sold about 61,500 recalled Gerolsteiner sparkling-water bottles in 12 states. If you have a 750 ml glass bottle, check the lower part of its label for lot code 11/28/2024 L or 11/27/2024 L. Stop using a bottle with either code and return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says proof of purchase is not required, but you must return the bottle.

Which bottles are included in the recall?

The recall covers Gerolsteiner sparkling water in 750 ml glass bottles. The CPSC-listed affected lot codes are:

  • 11/28/2024 L
  • 11/27/2024 L

Find the lot number on the lower part of the label. The affected bottles were also sold in 15-bottle cases. Match the exact code and bottle size; the brand alone is not enough to identify a recalled bottle. The CPSC recall notice lists the codes in this format.

Gerolsteiner’s U.S. recall page displays the dates differently—as 2024/28/11 and 2024/27/11, alongside best-before dates 2027/19/12 and 2027/18/12, respectively. These are the manufacturer’s displayed formats; use the CPSC lot codes above when checking your label rather than treating the differently formatted strings as identical. Gerolsteiner’s recall page provides its version of the identifiers.

What should you do if your bottle matches?

  1. Stop using it immediately. The CPSC says the glass may crack and cause cuts.
  2. Return the bottle to the Trader Joe’s store where you bought it. The CPSC directs consumers to return bottles from affected lots for a full refund.
  3. Bring the recalled bottle. The CPSC says proof of purchase is not required, but the bottle must be returned. The refund may be cash or store credit.

The manufacturer’s recall page gives different disposal and refund instructions: it says to dispose of affected bottles and says a full refund is provided upon presentation of proof of purchase. For the consumer remedy in the official U.S. recall notice, follow the CPSC’s return instructions. If a store cannot process the return or you need clarification, contact Trader Joe’s or Gerolsteiner.

Contacting Gerolsteiner

Gerolsteiner lists 800-777-0633, available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern, and [email protected]. Confirm current contact details on the manufacturer’s recall page before reaching out.

Where and when were the bottles sold?

The CPSC says the affected bottles were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Sales ran from December 2024 through January 2025, at about $3 per bottle. The CPSC’s March 13, 2025 notice reports about 61,500 bottles involved and no reported incidents or injuries.

Some secondary coverage gave a different state list: CBS News listed Arizona instead of Arkansas in its March 14, 2025 report. For the recall’s stated geographic scope, the CPSC list is the regulator’s primary reference.

Why were the bottles recalled?

Gerolsteiner says its internal quality control identified rare cracks in the bottoms of certain bottles. It says the cracks could cause leaks or fractures, and attributes the problem to quality deviations at a supplier. The company says it has rectified the issue and that other lot numbers are not affected. These are the manufacturer’s explanations; the CPSC identifies the consumer hazard as a laceration risk from bottles that may crack.
