Toyota confirmed in October 2025 that Century would stand alone as its own ultra-premium marque, positioned above Lexus in the company’s brand portfolio. Toyota has also described an ambition to make Century a global name. That is a strategy announcement, not confirmation of overseas sales: the markets, timing and future lineup have not been specified in the reviewed material. “Rolls-Royce rival” is therefore a useful competitive frame, not a verified Toyota declaration that the British marque is its formal target.
Is Toyota turning Century into a separate brand?
Yes. Toyota’s five-marque structure places Century at the top, alongside Lexus, Toyota, GR and Daihatsu. Toyota New Zealand’s October 31, 2025 report on the strategy describes Century as a standalone ultra-premium marque and says Toyota wants to develop it from a domestic status symbol into a global name. This is more than a proposal to add a new model under the Toyota or Lexus badge.
The distinction matters: a standalone marque is a corporate and brand-positioning decision. It does not, on its own, establish when or where customers will be able to buy a Century, what models will be offered, or how the brand will be distributed. Toyota has not stated those details in the reviewed announcement.
Toyota Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries, quoted in the report, described the intended relationship this way: “In a sense, Lexus can now move more freely. Lexus should continue to push forward as a pioneer, while Century sets its sights on the high end as the ‘Top of the Top, One of One.”

What makes Century different from Lexus?
Toyota’s stated hierarchy gives the two marques different jobs. Lexus is the company’s broader luxury brand, with room to keep developing its products and customer experience. Century is intended to occupy a more exclusive tier, centered on bespoke vehicles and chauffeur-oriented hospitality rather than simply being another step up in trim or price.

The Century identity has long been associated with Japanese craftsmanship and rear-seat comfort. Toyota traces the name to 1967, when it introduced the Century as a Japanese luxury chauffeur car. At the 2023 SUV premiere, Humphries called it “a car at the very pinnacle of the Toyota portfolio.” The Century official website presents sedan and SUV body forms and connects the marque with craft traditions such as Nishijin-ori brocade and urushi lacquer.
What does the current Century range and price tell buyers?
The most concrete product and price details in the cited Toyota material are from the September 2023 Japan launch announcement for the Century SUV. They are historical, market-specific reference points—not a current worldwide price list or confirmation of availability outside Japan.

Will Toyota Century be sold outside Japan?
Toyota’s reported ambition to build Century into a global name indicates international intent at the brand level. The reviewed material does not name any overseas markets, sales start dates, dealer or service arrangements, or a model lineup for those markets. A global brand ambition should not be read as an announced export schedule.

For a buyer assessing a future purchase, the practical questions remain unanswered: whether the vehicle will be officially offered in their country, what local pricing and taxes will apply, and whether servicing and parts support will be available. Until Toyota provides market-specific details, the 2023 Japan price and monthly volume cannot answer those questions.

It is reasonable to compare Century with Rolls-Royce as a question of intended market position: Toyota is placing Century above Lexus and describing a top-tier, highly exclusive proposition. But the available Toyota material supports the ambition and positioning, not a formal statement naming Rolls-Royce as a target or evidence that the marques currently compete on equal terms.

A meaningful buyer-level comparison would require facts that are not established in the cited sources, including comparable prices by market, sales and delivery access, service coverage, customer demand and the specific bespoke options offered in each country. Century’s announced emphasis on custom colors, materials, seat configurations and doors, along with its rear-seat focus, signals how Toyota wants the marque to be understood; it does not prove parity in every aspect of the ultra-luxury market.
