Tractor Supply vs. Home Depot and Lowe’s: Which Retail Stock Fits Dividend Investors?

The three retailers have different business exposures and announced per-share dividends, but those payments do not reveal which stock has the best yield or coverage. Here’s what dividend investors can compare—and what still needs checking.

There is no evidence here to name Tractor Supply, Home Depot, or Lowe’s the best dividend stock: their announced per-share payments are not comparable yields, and the available company disclosures do not provide matched payout coverage, valuation, or current-price data. Tractor Supply’s business serves rural-lifestyle customers; Home Depot and Lowe’s focus on home improvement. Dividend investors should compare those business exposures alongside dated yields, dividend growth, and cash-flow coverage before choosing.

What dividends have the companies announced?

The figures below are company-reported per-share amounts. A larger dollar payment per share does not by itself mean a higher yield: yield depends on the share price on the same date.

Company Reported dividend What the disclosure establishes
Tractor Supply $0.24 per share quarterly; $0.96 annualized for 2026 Tractor Supply announced the rate on February 11, 2026, and called it the company’s 17th consecutive year of dividend increases. Its investor FAQ says payments are made in March, June, September, and December. Company announcement filed with the SEC; investor FAQ.
Home Depot $2.33 per share quarterly The company’s 2026 dividend history shows three quarterly entries at $2.33. Its 2025 annual report says the board raised the rate 1.3%, from $2.30, in February 2026. Future payments remain subject to board declaration and financial considerations. Dividend history; 2025 annual report.
Lowe’s $1.25 per share quarterly, announced May 29, 2026 Lowe’s release index lists the increase and an August 28, 2026 cash-dividend declaration, but the index alone does not establish the amount of that August declaration. Financial press releases.

These are not three yields measured at a common point in time. To compare yield, divide the annual dividend rate by each stock’s share price on the same date, and label the result as an indicated or forward yield if it assumes a recently declared quarterly rate continues. A trailing yield instead uses dividends actually paid over a stated past period. No common-date share prices or comparable yield calculations are established here, so a yield ranking would be unsupported.

How do the businesses differ?

Tractor Supply: rural-lifestyle retail

Tractor Supply describes its customers as recreational farmers, ranchers, homeowners, gardeners, and pet enthusiasts. Its investor FAQ reported 2,463 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states and 209 Petsense stores in 23 states as of June 27, 2026. It also said the company planned approximately 100 new Tractor Supply stores for fiscal 2026. Those are company-reported scale and plans, not evidence that the expansion will occur as expected or that dividends are secure. Tractor Supply investor FAQ.

The company has also had a five-for-one stock split effective December 20, 2024. Anyone comparing older per-share dividend figures with current ones should confirm they are split-adjusted; otherwise, the apparent growth rate can be misleading. The same FAQ provides the company’s historical dividend series.

Home Depot and Lowe’s: home-improvement retail

Home Depot identifies itself as a home-improvement specialty retailer. It reported fiscal 2025 net sales of $164.7 billion and earnings of $14.2 billion. Those figures provide context for Home Depot’s scale, but they are not a matched comparison with the other two companies’ latest results. Home Depot investor documents.

The available company disclosures do not establish comparable recent operating momentum for Lowe’s or a three-way set of latest-quarter results. Do not infer that one retailer has stronger sales, margins, or cash generation from the dividend declarations alone.

What should dividend investors compare before choosing?

A useful stock comparison needs more than the announced cash amount. Evaluate all three companies using the same periods and definitions:

  • Yield at a common date: Use share prices from the same trading date and make clear whether the yield is trailing or based on an annualized quarterly rate.
  • Dividend growth: Compare the same multi-year window, adjusting Tractor Supply’s historical per-share figures for its December 2024 split.
  • Payout coverage: Compare dividends with earnings and, preferably, free cash flow over the same fiscal periods. A declared increase alone does not establish how comfortably it is funded.
  • Balance sheet and capital needs: Review debt, cash requirements, investment plans, and other capital-allocation commitments to judge how much flexibility remains for dividends.
  • Valuation and total return: Compare valuation using a consistent measure, then weigh income against the possibility that a stock’s price or business results change. A high yield alone does not establish attractive total-return potential.
  • Business exposure: Decide whether Tractor Supply’s rural-lifestyle focus or a home-improvement chain’s customer and category exposure better fits your view of consumer demand and business risk.

The available figures do not establish comparable payout ratios, free-cash-flow coverage, balance-sheet flexibility, valuation, or total returns for all three stocks. Those missing measures matter to dividend sustainability and the price paid for each dollar of income; the announced rates cannot substitute for them.

Which stock fits which dividend investor?

Use the distinctions as a starting point, not as a buy or sell verdict:

  • Consider Tractor Supply for further analysis if its rural-lifestyle retail exposure is the business you want to own and you are willing to verify split-adjusted growth and cash-flow coverage before relying on its dividend record.
  • Consider Home Depot for further analysis if home-improvement retail is a better fit and you want to assess its declared quarterly payment against its financial statements, price, and dividend coverage.
  • Consider Lowe’s for further analysis if its home-improvement exposure suits your portfolio, while checking the underlying declaration and current filings for a complete picture of the dividend and operating performance.

Tractor Supply’s 17-year increase streak is a documented history, not a promise of future increases. Home Depot’s annual report explicitly says future dividends depend on board declarations and financial considerations; the same basic caution applies when evaluating any company’s prospective payments.
