Trace Adkins was not reported to have received a $1 million divorce settlement. A December 2024 report said he had previously been awarded nearly $1 million in attorney fees and received an additional $179,402.25 fee award in May 2024. The Tennessee Court of Appeals’ public opinion documents the divorce’s path through 2023; the later fee figure and the claim that the dispute was over come from a news report, not that opinion.

What does the reported $1 million refer to?

It refers to attorney-fee awards, not a settlement payout to Trace Adkins. In Touch, in a report republished by Yahoo Entertainment on December 11, 2024, said Trace had previously been awarded nearly $1 million in attorney fees and that a court awarded him another $179,402.25 in May 2024. The report did not provide an exact cumulative total, so the figures should not be added into a precise total.

The 2024 amounts come from secondary reporting that cites court documents. The underlying May 2024 fee-award documents are not available in the cited account for independent confirmation. Accordingly, the additional amount and earlier-fee description are best attributed to that report rather than presented as figures established by the appellate opinion.

When did the divorce become final?

The case began in 2014, but the legal process extended for years. The Tennessee Court of Appeals wrote that the divorce decree was initially entered in 2017 and the action “was not finalized until 2022.” The trial court issued a final order resolving remaining issues on July 19, 2022. The appellate court later addressed the decree in its August 24, 2023 decision.

Key dates in the case

  • 2014: Rhonda Forlaw Adkins initiated the divorce action, according to the appellate opinion.
  • May 28, 2015: The parties signed a marital dissolution agreement covering property, spousal support and custody. It specified that the divorce would be granted on the ground of irreconcilable differences.
  • January 7, 2017: The trial court enforced the agreement, finding it remained valid despite dismissal of the original action.
  • July 19, 2022: The trial court entered a final order on the remaining issues.
  • August 24, 2023: The Tennessee Court of Appeals affirmed the divorce on irreconcilable-differences grounds, modified the decree to award the divorce to Rhonda as the agreement specified, and awarded Trace appellate attorney fees under the agreement.
  • May 2024: A later news report said the court awarded Trace another $179,402.25 in attorney fees.
  • December 11, 2024: In Touch published its report, republished by Yahoo Entertainment, quoting Trace’s attorney on the case’s status.

What did the 2023 appeals-court decision do?

The Court of Appeals’ August 24, 2023 opinion addressed the decree and the parties’ agreement. It affirmed the divorce on the agreed ground of irreconcilable differences, modified the decree so Rhonda was awarded the divorce as the agreement specified, and awarded Trace appellate attorney fees under the marital dissolution agreement. That is distinct from the later-reported May 2024 fee award.

The opinion is the primary source for the case’s 2014–2023 procedural history and appellate disposition: Tennessee Court of Appeals opinion, August 24, 2023.

Was the divorce conclusively over in 2024?

Trace’s attorney, Larry Hayes, told In Touch in December 2024 that Rhonda had no further avenues available to challenge the settlement and that the divorce was concluded. That is counsel’s statement as quoted in the report, not a new court ruling or language from the 2023 appellate opinion. The report is available through Yahoo Entertainment’s republication of the In Touch report.
