The notice originally set 15 May 2024 as the last date for online registration and payment. A 2025 Madras High Court judgment recounts that the deadline was later extended to 15 July 2024. Both dates have passed.
The original notice stated: “Applications are invited only through online mode up to 15.05.2024 for Direct Recruitment to the post of Assistant Surgeon (General) on temporary basis in Tamil Nadu Medical Service.” The later extension is important: 15 May was not the final deadline after the extension.

These are separate recruitments, with distinct notification numbers, vacancy counts and dates. The MRB examination listing includes Assistant Surgeon (General) exam dates in January 2025 and January 2026, but an examination date does not mean registration is open.
What the 2024 notice said about eligibility
A 2025 Madras High Court judgment’s account of the 2024 notice lists these requirements:
- An MBBS qualification.
- Registration as a practitioner under the relevant law.
- At least 12 months of house-surgeon service, also called CRRI.
- Registration with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council by the applicable application deadline.

- Find the exact notice: Open the MRB notification index and confirm the notification number, post, application dates and any corrigenda. Do not rely on a headline or a previous recruitment’s dates.
- Check eligibility and instructions: Read the full notice for qualifications, registration cutoffs, category-wise vacancies, examination details, fees or exemptions, and required documents.
- Submit the online application by the stated deadline: MRB’s general FAQ says candidates apply online. Follow the specific notice if its instructions differ from the general FAQ.
- Keep track of selection-stage updates: The FAQ says shortlisted candidates are asked to provide certificates. It also says a printout of the online application is not necessary under its general guidance; follow any different instruction in the specific notice.
MRB’s FAQ also states that employment-exchange registration alone does not automatically qualify a person to sit an examination.
